Marvel has always leveraged nostalgia to create excitement for its upcoming theatrical events, and few films evoke as much emotion as the one that concluded the Infinity Saga. Re-releasing such a significant movie isn’t merely a victory lap; it serves as a strategic bridge to future projects.

This is precisely the approach behind Marvel’s latest re-release, bringing one of its most cherished blockbusters back to theaters just months ahead of the studio’s next major crossover. With the film set to hit theaters on September 25, fans have been eagerly speculating about the amount of new material included for their ticket price.

Now, those questions have been answered. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Encore will feature one minute and fifty-eight seconds of bonus scenes in its standard theatrical version, extending the film’s original runtime of three hours, one minute, and eleven seconds. For audiences in IMAX or Disney’s Infinity Vision-certified theaters, the additional content increases by three minutes, including exclusive ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ footage, bringing the total new material in those formats to nearly five minutes.

Marvel is rolling out ‘Endgame’ Encore across five different theatrical formats, including Standard, Infinity Vision, IMAX, ScreenX, and 4DX. Infinity Vision is not a separate format but a certification for premium large-format theaters that meet specific technical standards for large screens, high-contrast laser projection, and immersive sound.

The standard version includes the same new opening sequence and additional scenes found in all presentations, along with updated color grading on some existing sequences. However, it does not feature the new Doomsday-related post-credits scene, which is exclusive to IMAX and Infinity Vision screenings. Fans wanting to see all the new content will need to opt for one of those premium formats.

Co-director Joe Russo has been clear about the intention behind bringing ‘Endgame’ back to theaters. At the Sands Film Festival in Scotland, Russo referred to the re-release as a “critical companion story” that sets up ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ as reported by Deadline, directly linking the new footage to the upcoming film.

This connection is particularly relevant given the timing. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is scheduled for release on December 18, and Marvel seems determined to use ‘Endgame’s’ emotional peaks, including the portal battle, Steve Rogers lifting Mjolnir, and Tony Stark’s ultimate sacrifice, to draw audiences back into the Avengers mindset ahead of the next major chapter.

This isn’t the first time ‘Endgame’ has returned to theaters since its original 2019 release. The film previously had a smaller re-release that summer, which added only a brief deleted scene, a Stan Lee tribute, and a blooper reel, rather than any story-related material connected to a future project.

With the confirmed runtime details and Marvel explicitly presenting this re-release as a bridge to ‘Doomsday,’ fans now have a clearer understanding of what to expect based on their chosen format.
