‘Barbershop’ Sequel Series Trailer Reveals New Face at Calvin’s
The ‘Barbershop‘ franchise began as a modest venture and has evolved into a significant part of pop culture. The original film, released in 2002 and starring Ice Cube as Calvin Palmer Jr., was produced on a $12 million budget and went on to earn $77 million globally. This success led to the sequels ‘Barbershop 2: Back in Business’ in 2004 and ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’ in 2016.
The franchise expanded beyond films, giving rise to the spin-off ‘Beauty Shop’ featuring Queen Latifah. Collectively, the four films have grossed over $235 million worldwide, thanks to a blend of sharp humor and heartfelt community connections that kept audiences returning to Calvin’s.
Now, the beloved barbershop is set to make its return on streaming. Prime Video has unveiled the first trailer for the ‘Barbershop’ sequel series, which centers on a man who comes back to honor his grandfather’s legacy by managing the iconic barbershop. The trailer includes a memorable line that encapsulates the show’s charm: “When I was a kid, this barbershop was magic.”

The series is set to premiere on Prime Video on February 10, 2027, with all eight episodes available for streaming at once. The main character, Travis “Trav” Walker, portrayed by Jermaine Fowler, returns to Chicago to continue his grandfather’s legacy, but he finds that both the shop and the city have evolved.
As per the official synopsis, Trav must navigate his role among a new group of barbers and loyal patrons. Calvin’s remains a hub for sharp fades, lively discussions, and a community eager to express its views. This suggests a series that will capture the same engaging barbershop banter that made the films a hit.
The cast boasts a wealth of comedic talent, including Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye, and Langston Kerman. Guest appearances will feature Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, and Tituss Burgess.
Behind the scenes, there’s a strong connection to the original film. Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the 2002 ‘Barbershop,’ is involved as a writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner alongside Max Searle. Oz Rodriguez serves as executive producer and director, with Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat among the production companies.
Prime Video announced the series in May 2025, and the journey to its February 10 premiere has been steady. The streamer released two first-look images on September 30, followed by a teaser at CultureCon, where Fowler and Brett Gray made appearances. This rollout indicates that Amazon MGM Studios is prioritizing the revival.
The timing is ripe for the show to engage in relevant conversations. ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’ grossed $55 million worldwide on a $20 million budget in 2016, and the new series is poised to spark discussions more than 20 years after the original. As one outlet noted, there are certainly plenty of fresh topics for Calvin’s customers to debate.
If the trailer is any indication, the series aims to retain the original’s warmth while providing a new generation with its own space. With the premiere just four months away, fans will soon discover if Calvin’s still holds that magic.
