Batman Steals GCPD Motorcycle in New ‘The Batman: Part II’ Set Footage
Superhero sequels often keep their central conflicts under wraps until release, but the ongoing shoot for Matt Reeves’ next Batman film in Glasgow has been unusually revealing. Each night, fresh footage emerges, showcasing an increasingly tense dynamic between Batman and Gotham’s police force.
Production on ‘The Batman: Part II’ has transformed Glasgow into a wintery Gotham City, with reports of fake ice on the roads, GCPD cruisers positioned throughout the city center, and lighting cranes set up for extensive night shoots. This elaborate setup has already yielded striking visuals of a damaged Batmobile being cornered and fired upon by the police.
The latest video from the set escalates this conflict further. It features Batman commandeering a GCPD motorcycle, making his escape after the Batmobile suffers significant damage during the confrontation with the police. Many fans have noted that this scene mirrors imagery from Frank Miller’s iconic ‘Batman: Year One’ comic storyline.
The same set videos also provided a brief look at the sequel’s updated Batsuit, worn by stunt performer Rick English, who is standing in for Robert Pattinson. Although the footage is somewhat dark, fans have observed that the cowl’s ears seem slightly longer than in the 2022 film, hinting at a subtle evolution for the character.
Additional footage from the same night also featured what seems to be Scarlett Johansson’s stunt double alongside a child actor, sparking speculation about her undisclosed character. While Johansson’s role remains officially unconfirmed, some fans have speculated she may be portraying Gilda Dent, a theory that has yet to be validated by Reeves or DC Studios.
The footage of Batman taking a police motorcycle follows earlier videos showing GCPD officers in tactical gear firing at the Batmobile, complete with muzzle flashes, as it sat parked in artificial snow under flashing blue and red lights. This confrontation marks a significant shift from the first film’s conclusion, where Batman was seen as a symbol of hope by the police.
By the end of 2022’s ‘The Batman,’ the police department had started to view Batman as a beacon of hope following his heroics during the Riddler’s citywide flood, with officers like Officer Martinez showing signs of growing trust. However, the sequel appears to have reversed that goodwill, with the entire department now actively pursuing Batman through Gotham’s snowy streets.
Reeves has expressed a desire for the sequel’s action to feel grounded and dangerous rather than overly stylized, and a motorcycle chase across icy Gotham streets aligns perfectly with that vision. The wet pavement and standing puddles seen in the set footage suggest Gotham is still recovering from the devastating flood that concluded the first film, adding another layer of tension to the sequence.
A stolen police motorcycle underscores the escalating tension between Batman and law enforcement since the first film’s more optimistic ending. With production continuing in Glasgow into September, more footage revealing this confrontation and its resolution is likely to emerge as filming progresses.
