Chloe Bennet dedicated seven years to crafting a significant part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that continues to resonate with fans a decade later. Portraying Daisy Johnson, also known as Quake, she contributed to ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ becoming the first live-action television series under the Marvel Studios umbrella, airing from 2013 to 2020 and intricately weaving its narratives with the films surrounding it.

This connection was fundamental to the show’s premise from the start. Kevin Feige himself positioned the series as canon at its inception, and its early seasons strongly embraced that commitment, directly linking to the aftermath of ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier.’

However, in recent years, Marvel has subtly retracted that framing, and Bennet has made it clear that she is not at peace with this shift. “I’m still low-key angry that they don’t fully acknowledge this as canon, the real followers will understand that,” she stated. “We were the first MCU TV show, and we did 130-something hour-long episodes. We spent a lot of time in people’s homes.”

Bennet has consistently addressed this topic directly whenever it arises. During a Dragon Con panel earlier this year, she candidly told fans that ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ is not regarded as canon, eliciting audible boos from the audience, before adding that she believes the show will make “some weird, random comeback” in the future.

The show’s exclusion has sparked considerable debate among fans and critics alike regarding Marvel’s retcon history. ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ aired approximately 136 episodes over seven seasons, developing its own lore around Inhumans, time travel, and the disintegration of S.H.I.E.L.D., all while existing alongside a film universe that eventually moved on without acknowledging much of its content. An official Marvel timeline book that entirely omitted the series only intensified the feeling that it had been sidelined.

For Bennet, her frustration seems less about personal ego and more about the significance of what the cast and crew accomplished being overlooked. Producing over a hundred episodes of network television tied to a shared cinematic universe was a monumental effort, and she has consistently expressed a desire for that work to be recognized rather than quietly erased.

Despite this, she has indicated that she would welcome a return to the role of Daisy Johnson if Marvel Studios were to reach out. Bennet has humorously noted that she would not be a good candidate for keeping any such secret under wraps if it ever occurred. She has also commented on ‘Secret Invasion,’ suggesting that Daisy could have fit into that storyline, although she was not invited to appear.

Marvel Studios has yet to provide an official reason for why ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ was excluded from the canon, and the studio has largely allowed the ambiguity to persist without clarification. This silence has only fueled further speculation among fans about the possibility of a return, especially as Marvel continues to expand its television offerings on Disney+.

For now, Bennet’s remarks reflect someone who has come to terms with the uncertainty while acknowledging that it still stings. The show clearly holds significant meaning for her, and she is unreserved in expressing that whenever the topic arises.
