AMC’s CEO Adam Aron addressed the challenges faced during the launch of The Odyssey premium ticket sales. Many fans encountered issues when trying to purchase tickets for special screenings on the AMC website and app.

Users reported experiencing long waiting queues, frozen screens, and failed payment attempts. Some had to wait extensively to complete their purchases, while others were unable to get through at all.

In response, Aron took to X to apologize for the difficulties people faced. He explained that the overwhelming demand caused significant strain on the system, while also emphasizing that the interest in the film was exceptionally high. He stated, “The Odyssey recorded AMC’s highest first-day ticket sales for any studio-released movie title since 2022.”

He also reassured customers that many seats remain available for future screenings, stating there are “MILLIONS more available seats,” indicating that fans who missed out still have opportunities to buy tickets later. His message combined an apology with a clear indication that the film is already a significant commercial success for AMC.

According to Aron, the only films that performed better on their first day at AMC since 2022 were concert films released through AMC’s own distribution. He highlighted Beyoncé’s Renaissance concert film in 2023 and two Taylor Swift concert releases in 2023 and 2025, which were treated more as cultural events than typical movie releases.

Aside from those concert films, Aron noted that The Odyssey has surpassed all other studio movies in first-day ticket sales over the past several years. This positions the film uniquely within Hollywood, competing in the same demand category as major music events rather than standard movie openings.

The ticket launch itself was chaotic, with AMC temporarily pausing its online queue system due to the overwhelming number of people trying to buy tickets simultaneously. The rush was particularly intense for premium formats like IMAX 70mm, IMAX, standard 70mm, 35mm film, RPX, and 4DX screenings, which have limited seating. Many fans reported waiting in queues for over an hour, only to encounter errors or checkout issues.

Despite the technical difficulties, Aron’s comments framed the situation as evidence of the substantial audience interest. The strong demand suggests that The Odyssey is poised to become one of the biggest film events of its release year.

Directed and written by Christopher Nolan, the film is set to be released on July 17. It adapts Homer’s ancient Greek epic about Odysseus and his long journey home after the Trojan War, and is described as a large-scale project filmed around the world using advanced IMAX technology.

The cast features several major actors, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Jon Bernthal, and more. The film has been positioned as a significant theatrical release designed for large-format viewing.

Overall, AMC’s response highlights two key points: while the ticketing system struggled under pressure, the demand for The Odyssey was robust enough to align it with some of the biggest entertainment events in recent years.
