‘Ahsoka‘ concluded its first season, leaving fans with numerous unanswered questions, particularly regarding a group of beings that ‘Star Wars’ has not explored in years. Baylan Skoll’s fascination with ancient ruins on Peridea hinted at something far older and more enigmatic than the show’s main Thrawn-centric plot. Since then, Dave Filoni has been dropping hints about the significance of this storyline.

The second season is officially set to delve deeper into this mystery, with Filoni writing all eight episodes. Directors Bryce Dallas Howard and Jennifer Getzinger are also joining the production, which took place in the United Kingdom from April to October 2025. Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Ahsoka Tano, alongside Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, while Lars Mikkelsen’s Grand Admiral Thrawn continues to lead the Imperial remnant narrative against the New Republic.

Central to the plot is Baylan Skoll’s quest, now portrayed by Rory McCann, which season one revealed was linked to towering statues associated with the Mortis Gods, powerful Force-wielders first introduced in ‘The Clone Wars.’ Filoni has confirmed that these deities will play a significant role in season 2, rather than just serving as background lore.

“What we’re dealing with is: are you going to believe in this, or not?” Filoni said, teasing the nature of the Force deities’ involvement in the upcoming season. “What is the danger if it’s real?”

This framing is crucial, especially considering how divisive the Mortis arc has been among fans. The original ‘Clone Wars’ trilogy featuring the Father, Son, and Daughter leaned heavily into mysticism, which some viewers felt conflicted with the franchise’s typical tone. Introducing this concept in live-action allows Filoni to gauge whether audiences will accept the Mortis mythology as concrete canon or view it as something more ambiguous within the storyline.

Filoni has previously described the statues seen in season one as intentionally cryptic, noting that only a small segment of the fanbase would recognize their significance upon their initial appearance. This approach aligns with how he has handled the material, treating the Mortis Gods less as returning characters and more as a philosophical question looming over Baylan’s entire arc.

With Ahsoka and Sabine’s fate on Peridea already intertwined with powerful Force-wielders from their time there, incorporating the Mortis mythology provides a clear connection between the show’s two major storylines. Baylan’s personal quest for these ancient beings seems poised to intersect with the main cast before the season concludes, based on plot details surrounding the confrontation building around his discovery.

‘Ahsoka’ season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in early 2027, giving fans the opportunity to revisit the Mortis trilogy from ‘The Clone Wars’ before the new episodes explore the reality and potential dangers of these ancient gods.
