David Tennant is once again capturing attention on streaming platforms with his new series ‘Rivals’. The second season has just begun releasing episodes, yet it is already achieving impressive viewing figures worldwide.
According to streaming data from FlixPatrol, along with platform charts from Hulu and Disney+, the show quickly ascended into the top rankings following the release of its first three episodes. In the United States, it reached seventh place on Hulu, alongside other popular titles like ‘The Testaments’ and ‘Perfect Crown’. Globally, it also secured seventh place on Disney+, indicating strong international interest.

The series is particularly thriving in several countries. It has reached number one in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and it is also in the top ten in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, and Spain. In Croatia, it has climbed to third place among the most-watched series.
‘Rivals’ is based on the books by Jilly Cooper and centers around a power struggle between Tony Baddingham, portrayed by David Tennant, and Rupert Campbell-Black, played by Alex Hassell. Their rivalry intensifies as new characters, including journalists and media figures, enter the narrative, adding more tension and conflict.
The second season picks up right after the events of the first, with Tony still fixated on revenge following a significant battle over a television franchise. The show reintroduces several key characters while also bringing in new ones, further expanding the drama.

The first season of ‘Rivals’ was a significant success when it premiered in 2024. It ranked highly on streaming charts, garnered strong reviews, and even won an international Emmy for best drama series. David Tennant received a BAFTA nomination for his performance.
Due to this success, Disney commissioned a longer second season consisting of 12 episodes. The season is being released in two parts, with the first six episodes airing from mid-May to early June, and the remaining episodes set to be released later.
Critics have responded positively to the new season thus far. Early reviews on Rotten Tomatoes indicate very high approval ratings, with both critics and audiences giving strong scores. Many reviewers note that the new episodes feel more intense and provide greater depth to the characters, particularly Tony and Rupert.
Overall, the combination of favorable reviews and increasing global streaming numbers suggests that ‘Rivals’ is maintaining its success, with David Tennant’s role being a key factor in its popularity.
