Michael C. Hall’s iconic serial killer saga continues to deliver a chilling rogues’ gallery for Dexter Morgan, and Season 2 of ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ is no exception. Now set in New York City instead of his familiar Miami, the show’s writers have embraced the vastness of the city to introduce not just one, but two new killers for Dexter to pursue.

This expanded hunting ground is central to the season’s storyline, placing Dexter in the crosshairs of two very different predators. As per the official logline, Dexter finds himself “caught between two killers, one notorious and the other terrorizing New York in ways no one ever anticipated,” all while grappling with what the show describes as his greatest adversary yet: a midlife crisis.

New first-look images have provided fans with their clearest view of both new antagonists, along with insights into their methods. Gabriel Luna portrays Ray Ballard, known as The Sleepy-Eyed Stranger, a serial killer infamous for breaking into homes and subtly rearranging belongings to psychologically unsettle his victims before ultimately killing them.

The second new threat is introduced by Dan Stevens, who plays The Five Borough Killer, a character designed to evoke the notorious Zodiac Killer. According to Paramount+’s official character breakdown, Stevens’ character taunts law enforcement with phone calls threatening to murder innocent citizens across New York’s boroughs, then follows through on those threats, instilling fear throughout the city.

Completing the season’s lineup of central villains is Brian Cox as Don Framt, also known as The New York Ripper. This retired killer was first hinted at in Season 1’s finale when Dexter discovered a file on him in the vault of billionaire serial-killer enthusiast Leon Prater. Although Framt no longer actively kills, he continues to psychologically torment survivors of his past crimes, providing a stark contrast to the more actively dangerous new threats.

Luna’s casting adds another impressive genre credit to his already busy year, following his role in Peacock’s “Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy” and his upcoming return for Season 3 of HBO’s “The Last of Us.” Stevens also brings a strong genre pedigree to the role, having recently appeared in projects like “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.”

In addition to the new killers, the first-look images confirm the return of the season’s cast, including Uma Thurman reprising her role as Charley, Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, and James Remar returning as Dexter’s late father, Harry. Bokeem Woodbine and Nona Parker Johnson join the cast as Captain Mixon and his daughter Fiona, while Desmond Harrington has been promoted to series regular after his brief appearance in Season 1 as Lieutenant Joey Quinn.

Krysten Ritter is also set to return in a guest role as Mia LaPierre, known as Lady Vengeance. Given her fate in Season 1, her appearance in Season 2 is likely to occur through a vision, flashback, or another unconventional storytelling method rather than a straightforward continuation.

With three distinct killers confirmed for the season and Dexter’s personal life unraveling under the pressure of a midlife crisis, ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2 is gearing up to challenge its titular character like never before, both as a hunter and as a man increasingly uncertain of his place in this new city.
