Dexter Morgan has faced numerous challenges over the past 20 years. From a career with Miami Metro police to a staged death, a quiet life in a small town, and even a bullet wound, he has endured it all. Now, the iconic character returns to confront a different kind of adversary, as Paramount+ unveils the first official look at the upcoming chapter of ‘Dexter: Resurrection’.

The franchise has enjoyed a remarkable revival. The original ‘Dexter’ aired for 8 seasons before Michael C. Hall reprised his role in ‘Dexter: New Blood’ in 2021. ‘Dexter: Resurrection’, created for Paramount+ with Showtime, premiered on July 11, 2025, with showrunner Clyde Phillips bringing the character back to New York.

On October 1, Paramount+ released the first official trailer for the second season, which has already garnered over 68,000 views on DiscussingFilm’s post. The trailer expands on a 40-second teaser released in September, showcasing Dexter at an optical store for an eye exam followed by a montage of him sharpening his weapons. The teaser’s tagline hinted at his return, stating he is back and sharper than ever.

The second season is set to premiere on Friday, October 30, exclusively on Paramount+ with the Premium Plan. This release date is perfectly timed for Halloween and coincides with the franchise’s 20th anniversary.

The official logline reveals that Dexter is caught between two killers. One is a notorious figure with decades of murders under his belt, while the other is a fresh face wreaking havoc in New York in unexpected ways. Additionally, Dexter grapples with what Paramount+ describes as his greatest adversary yet: a midlife crisis.

Phillips has confirmed that the new season picks up three years after the first, which helps to explain the aging theme in the marketing. This time jump also allows Dexter’s son, Harrison, portrayed by Jack Alcott, to take on a more prominent role.

Hall returns as Dexter, joined by Uma Thurman, reprising her role as Charley, a former special ops officer turned security chief. Summer photos hinted at a developing bond between her character and Dexter. Alcott returns as Harrison, with James Remar reprising his role as Harry Morgan.

New series regulars include Brian Cox as Don Framt, known as the New York Ripper, Dan Stevens as Owen Stark, and Bokeem Woodbine as Captain Mixon. Nona Parker Johnson joins as Fiona Mixon, a training officer in the NYPD homicide department who becomes Harrison’s new love interest. Gabriel Luna guest stars as the serial killer Ray Ballard, also known as the Sleepy-Eyed Stranger.

Returning cast members include Desmond Harrington as Joey Quinn, marking a reunion with the old Miami Metro days. Krysten Ritter also returns in a guest role as Mia “Lady Vengeance” Lapierre. Cox’s character is described as no longer an active killer but still living off his infamy by taunting the survivors of his past killing spree.

The first season significantly boosted the franchise, attracting 3.1 million cross-platform viewers during its opening weekend, marking it as the most-streamed premiere in Showtime history, a 46% increase from ‘Dexter: Original Sin’. Critics responded positively, with Rotten Tomatoes reporting a fresh score of 95% from 59 reviews.

The 10-episode run concluded on September 5, 2025, with a poignant twist for the character, leading to Paramount+ renewing the show in October 2025. Production for the second season began this spring, with Hall announcing on Instagram that filming was underway. Director Marcos Siega has also been involved in preparing the new episodes.

For fans, the trailer presents a blend of dark humor and fresh menace, a hallmark of the franchise. The pairing of Hall and Cox is sure to create buzz leading up to the premiere. With Halloween just around the corner, more promotional material is expected soon.
