Disney Characters That Start With R: Iconic Names

Getting near the end of the alphabet, there are many famous Disney characters that have names starting with ‘R’, so let’s look at some of the biggest names in the Disney franchise!

1. Rabbit (The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh)

A compulsive and neurotic Rabbit, he often finds himself in conflict with his friends but they always forgive and put up with him.

Yellow in color, he lives in a large tree and spends a lot of time on his vegetable garden.

Unlike most of the other inhabitants of Hundred Acre Wood, Rabbit is not a toy and so has all the features of a rabbit and moves a lot more smoothly.

2. Rafiki (The Lion King)

A mandrill monkey, he plays the role of a shaman and holds the position of Royal Mjuzi of the Pride Lands.

Having been saved while on pilgrimage by Ahadi, the father of Mufasa, he is a trusted adviser and very loyal. 

While appearing somewhat crazy, he does demonstrate some type of link to the spiritual world and is used in many ceremonies, including the presentation of Simba to the rest of the animals.

3. Rajah (Aladdin)

Princess Jasmine’s pet tiger, he is loyal and willing to do anything to protect Jasmine.

Purchased from an abusive circus, he initially didn’t like Aladdin, but as he realized the bond between them he cooled on him.

4. Ralph (Wreck-it Ralph)

Standing at 9 feet and weighing over 640 pounds, he is the misunderstood bad guy of a platform game, who eventually tries to be a good guy.

Due to his destruction of their homes, he is shunned by Nicelanders and lives in the town’s dump. After 30 years of constant destruction and belittlement, he attempts to jump to another game, Hero’s Duty, to win the Medal of Heroes.

Based on the original 1981 arcade game of Donkey Kong, Ralph is a sweet and casual character who is very human in his outlook and behavior.

5. Ramone (Cars)

A purple 1959 Chevrolet Impala with flame decals running down the side, he’s part of Lightning McQueen’s pit crew and specializes in paint jobs.

He is very into paint jobs, giving himself one every few weeks. He also has a huge low rider style complete with hydraulics and chrome.

Easily the coolest car in Radiator Springs, he’s married to Flo.

6. Rancis Fluggerbutter (Wreck-It Ralph)

Basically a living Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, he is a racer in the game Sugar Rush.

7. Randall Boggs (Monsters, Inc)

Jealous of Sully’s success, he starts to kidnap children to get more out of the diminishing scare energy.

Initially a friend of Mike when they were at Monsters University, he took tips on scaring, including using his camouflage ability more.

After losing to Sully in the Scare Games, he swore a vendetta against Sully.

Randall has shown that this revenge goes as far as wanting to kill Sully, which he attempts by wrapping himself around Sully’s neck and is only stopped by Mike.

8. Rapunzel (Tangled)

Princess of the kingdom of Corona, she has been locked away in a tower almost her entire life. Flynn Rider rescues her and she sets off trying to find out what the floating lights she has seen outside her window.

Mother Gothel tried to regain the power of the flower after it was used to save Rapunzel’s dying mother, only to find that the power had now seeped into Rapunzel’s hair.

As the flower has kept Mother Gothel young and alive for hundreds of years, she is determined to regain the power and thus kidnaps Rapunzel.

9. Ratigan (The Great Mouse Detective)

A crime boss who wants to rule over Mousedom, he has successfully pulled off many capers.

A criminal mastermind, he hates being referred to as a rat and is finding out quickly that he has met his match in Basil the great mouse detective.

Ratigan often relies on his pet cat, Felicia, to dispatch his enemies.

10. Ray (The Princess and the Frog)

A firefly with a distinctive Cajun theme, he is obsessed with Evangeline who is a star, but possibly may have been a firefly in a previous generation.

11. Raya (Raya and the Last Dragon)

The princess of Kumandra’s Heartland and daughter of Chief Benja, she is tasked with saving her people by finding all the Gem pieces and using its power to vanquish the Druun for good.

She is hunted by Namaari and has to use her wits and ingenuity to get out of many situations, including hand to hand combat. Thankfully for her, she is proficient with many weapons after years of practice.

On a quest to find Sisu, a dragon who can help restore her father from the stone statute he has become, she has to overcome many obstacles including a ‘con-baby’ and giants.

12. Razoul (Aladdin)

The gap-toothed palace guard whose ruthless treatment of beggars and their ilk makes him feared amongst everyone.

A huge, muscular guard with bulging arms and a massive sword, he seems to take pleasure in lopping off hands and performing executions.

He is very loyal to the Sultan and therefore Jasmine, even going so far as to disparage Aladdin as he thinks he is just after Jasmine’s hand in marriage because of greed rather than love.

13. Remy (Ratatouille)

A cute rat who dreams of being a chef, a ghost becomes his mentor and encourages him to follow his dream.

With a powerful nose and the ability to tell all the ingredients in a dish, he becomes friends with Alfredo Linguini and helps him cook in his stead.

Generally walking around on two feet, his skills as a chef are already good but increase dramatically with practice and guidance, eventually turning Linguini into seemingly the best cook in the restaurant (although it is really Remy doing all the work).

Remy has to constantly avoid the other cooks who are intent on killing him. He eventually makes it as a head chef in Paris.

14. Rex (Toy Story)

A slightly neurotic plastic Tyrannosaurus Rex, he is quite pessimistic but Hamm is often able to bring him around.

His tiny arms make him somewhat useless in crucial situations, but he tries his best.

15. Rhino (Bolt)

One of the biggest mismatched names in history, Rhino is a hamster mainly found in his ball and is one of Bolt’s biggest fans.

16. Rick Decker (The Incredibles)

A government agent of the NSA (National Supers Agency) his role is to deal with Super accidents.

Often tasked with keeping the Parrs safe with the alternate identities, he has his hands full dealing with Mr Incredible.

17. Ricky Plesuski (Monsters, Inc)

Almost all mouth and teeth, Ricky is a green monster that was one of the top scarers before being transferred to a laugh collector.

18. Riley Andersen (Inside Out)

The focus of the film, she has to deal with her competing inner emotions including Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust and Anger.

After moving from Minnesota to San Francisco, she goes through the usual trials and tribulations involved with such a big scenery change.

Her emotions wreak havoc inside her, pulling her from one extreme to the other. Eventually, she realizes that she can’t quite control what is going on, and turns to her parents for help.

19. Ringmaster (Dumbo)

The leader of the circus, he’s always keen to make the circus better but the way he goes about it is often underhanded and unethical.

After the elephants fail at an unrehearsed and dangerous stunt, he blames the animals without realizing that he is the one causing the issues, compounded by the fact that he constantly mistreats the animals too.

Having said that, he is not the worst antagonist or villain, and does come around and recognize talent and ability once he witnessed Dumbo’s flying capabilities, going further to honor all of Dumbo’s requests such as being reunited with his mother.

20. Ripslinger (Planes)

A lime green plane who doesn’t care who or what he steps on to win, he is based on a P-51D Mustang.

Ripslinger has won Wings Around the Globe an amazing three times, and has amassed a huge fan base off the back of this. With his nickname, The Green Tornado, revealing what kind of racer he is, he is very dismissive of Dusty.

21. Rita (Oliver & Company)

A Saluki dog with a large mane, she’s part of Dodger’s gang and looks after Oliver. She has a senior role and makes sure all the loot is good enough for Fagin.

22. River Scott (Cars 3)

A gray 1938 Dirt Track Racer, he piled up the wins on the circuit and became a trailblazer in the Piston Cup.

23. Robaire (Turning Red)

Leader of the boy band, 4*TOWN, he is a big draw for Mei despite her mom’s warnings.

Being Mei’s love interest, she finds it very hard to resist his great dance moves and singing voice.

24. Robin Hood (Robin Hood)

An anthropomorphic fox and cheeky protagonist, he is an outlaw who is constantly trying to stymy Prince John by robbing the tax caravans.

Working together with his buddy Little John, his love interest is Maid Marian but her lady-in-waiting often gets in the way.

He is well loved by the people of Nottingham due to his actions, as they hate the oppressive policies of the sheriff.

25. Rochelle (Planes)

El Chupacabra’s love interest, she is a combination of a LearAvia Lear Fan’s fuselage, a Fouga Magister tail, a Williams V-Jet II cockpit, and uses the Cessna 402’s engines.

Originally hailing from Canada, she was a mail plane which ignited her passion for speed, eventually becoming an accomplished racer.

26. Rock Titan (Hercules)

Part of the four titans, his name is Lythos and his tremendous strength saw him destroy the gates of Mt Olympus.

With a two-headed appearance, he has glowing red eyes and can cause earthquakes just by stomping.

27. Roger Radcliffe (101 Dalmatians)

The kind hearted husband of Anita and owner of Pongo, he is a creative songwriter but somewhat of a workaholic.

He sees through Cruella’s tricks, and stands up to her with no fear.

28. Roquefort (The Aristocats)

A mouse with a red detective hat and coat, he lives in a nest in Madame Bonfamille’s mansion and gets along well with Duchess.

Despite the usual relationship of a mouse and cats being antagonists, Roquefort instead helps out the cats which can be seen especially when they go missing.

Roquefort then realizes Edgar the butler was behind it all, and starts to sabotage him constantly to stop another incidence of catnapping.

29. Roll (A Bug’s Life)

A Hungarian pillbug with a twin Tuck, they are cannonballs in P T Flea’s circus who ruin the Flaming Death act due to their constant bickering.

While this gets them fired, their poor understanding of English makes them think the phrase, ‘You’re fired!’ is actually a good thing, causing them to repeat it constantly.

They play a vital role in distracting Hopper which helps the ultimate plan succeed. 

30. Roy (Wreck-It Ralph)

A Nicelander often seen in a tuxedo, he is always worried about what the future holds and is keen for everyone to get along. This, however, does not extend to Ralph.

31. Roz (Monsters, Inc)

Leader of the Child Detection Agency, Mike doesn’t like her due to her constant insistence he does his job and file paperwork properly.

A large slug with librarian glasses, she doesn’t present as the happiest character.

32. Rufus (The Rescuers)

A cat who informed Bernard and Miss Bianca about Penny’s location, he doesn’t get his kicks out of chasing mice but is much nicer than the usual cat.

33. Russell (Up)

A Junior Wilderness Explorer who is more chin than neck, he accompanies Carl Fredricksen to Paradise Falls. A top achiever, he has earned all badges possible and is looking for more.

He loves candy and chocolate, and is very loud and boisterous. 

Although annoying to Carl, his persistence pays off after hanging onto Carl’s house as it takes off with 10,000 balloons.

Although not physically very strong, his determination helps get him through many difficult situations, such as when Charles and the Dog Fighters attack.

34. Rusty (Home on the Range)

Buck’s best friend, he is a Basset hound who is a deputy sheriff when the real sheriff, Sam Brown, is away on business.

He loves tic-tac-toe and often does his best to keep Buck in line. Rusty’s trusty nose also helps the cows track down Alameda Slim.

35. Rusty McAllister (The Incredibles)

A big fan of the Supers, he is nonetheless completely surprised seeing Mr Incredible and Syndrome in action, so much so that his bubblegum bursts all over his face.

36. Rutt (Brother Bear)

A bull moose, he has a brother Tuke and his mate is Anda. After meeting Kenai, they don’t believe his story that he was formerly a human and dismiss him.

After being attacked by Denahi, they then seek out Kenai’s protection and take his advice to ride on mammoths to cover their own trails.

37. Ryder Naturra (Frozen 2)

A member of the Northuldra tribe, he’s stuck inside the Enchanted Forest. His love of reindeer is almost unrivaled.

Being the sister of Honeymaren, he’s also never been outside the mist surrounding his home but despite this setback, is easygoing and always willing to learn more. He is surprised with Elsa’s use of magic and also realizes that Elsa and Anna’s mother was a Northuldra.
