Doctor Doom Takes His Throne in New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Promo Art
Great villains are often defined by their thrones. While Thanos had his quiet farm and Loki ruled from Asgard, Doctor Doom’s seat of power has been a significant part of Marvel lore for decades. This makes any new glimpse of Doctor Doom’s throne room a notable moment for fans of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
In the comics, Victor von Doom is the sovereign of Latveria, a small European nation heavily reliant on his advanced technological innovations. Despite being dethroned multiple times, he consistently returns to power within months. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Doom has long stood as one of Marvel’s most formidable villains.
Marvel’s latest promotional efforts have unveiled a fresh perspective on that powerful seat. The new artwork depicts Doom clad in armor and a hood, seated on a grand stone throne at the top of an expansive staircase. Tall stained-glass windows cast an eerie green light throughout the room, with runic carvings adorning the steps.
This image is quieter compared to the campaign’s more dynamic team-up art, and it effectively conveys Doom’s menace without the need for battle. The room’s scale and cold stone exude an atmosphere of a ruler who is entirely at ease with his absolute control.

This artwork follows a recent wave of Latveria-themed promotions. A ‘Team Doom’ poster showcased Doom in a towering throne room, flanked by three Latverian Witches, with torches illuminating the staircase and a seal carved into the floor. Additionally, a ‘Magic: The Gathering’ promo card featured Doom in a green cloak alongside the same hooded figures, adding to the intrigue surrounding the witches in the film’s marketing.
The Comic-Con trailer reportedly began with Doom seated on his throne in Latveria, indicating that this throne room will play a pivotal role in the film. Collectors have also taken note of the details, as a new Hot Toys and Sideshow throne accessory replicates the film’s design, complete with a towering backrest, wide winged base, cantilevered armrests, gold runic details, and a green stained-glass backdrop.
Robert Downey Jr. was unveiled as Doom at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024, revealing himself onstage surrounded by robed figures in Doom masks. He is said to have developed his own backstory for the character and contributed costume ideas, which helps explain why Doom has become the face of the campaign.
The MCU has also been laying the groundwork for Doom’s introduction. ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ featured an empty seat for Latveria during a United Nations scene, and its post-credits scene hinted at Doom, who is believed to originate from the same Earth-828 as the new Fantastic Four. A new Hot Toys figure also showcases a second costume based on the Supreme Ruler of Latveria look from that scene. In the trailer, Doom’s voice narrates the first half, and fans quickly picked up on his accent.

The pressing question remains: what are Doom’s plans from that throne? The film unites heroes from three different universes, and reports suggest that Doom will leverage incursions to reshape the multiverse according to his vision. One of the post-credits scenes in the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ re-release also hints at him seemingly recruiting Bruce Banner, indicating his court may be expanding.
This serves as a reminder that this villain does not merely combat heroes; he constructs worlds. If the film adheres to the comics, the throne could symbolize a much larger takeover, setting the stage for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, which is set to release on December 17, 2027.
For now, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to premiere on December 18, with some regions getting it as early as December 16. Domestic pre-sales have reportedly surpassed $50 million, and the first trailer achieved the second-largest trailer launch in history. Anthony Russo has mentioned that the current cut runs approximately two and a half hours.
