With ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ just a couple of months away, Marvel has been saturating theaters, expos, and merchandise shelves with Victor von Doom. The latest display featuring a Doctor Doom statue in Argentina exemplifies the studio’s heavy reliance on its iconic villain and highlights the global nature of the marketing campaign.

The promotional efforts have been ramping up for months. Marvel previously showcased a massive replica of Doom’s throne at an expo in Shanghai, followed by a similar version in the Philippines. Recently, a giant Doctor Doom statue was unveiled in Shanghai, capturing attention due to its impressive size.

In the United States, an AMC theater standee prominently features Robert Downey Jr.’s Doom seated on his throne, accompanied by the tagline “12.18.26 is Doomsday.” Cinemark has also introduced merchandise, including a Doctor Doom head popcorn bucket with glowing green eyes and a collectible cup depicting the villain on his throne. Additionally, Pop Secret, which has partnered with Marvel Studios for the film, released striking new key art of Doom, while a Hot Toys figure and costume display provided fans with a closer look at the character’s armor.

Now, the display has made its way to Argentina. A theater there is showcasing a statue of Doctor Doom with his arms crossed inside a lit glass case adorned with the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ logo. The case emits a green glow, and a circular sigil is printed on the floor surrounding it. A sign at the base reads “16 de diciembre, solo en cines,” indicating the film’s release date in the region on December 16.

The figure is clad in Doom’s silver armor, complete with a dark green hooded cloak, a wide belt with a square buckle, and a metal mask with glowing green eyes. Its crossed-arms posture exudes a commanding, almost regal presence, aligning with how the studio has been portraying him as a ruler with a throne rather than merely a masked antagonist.

The green lighting is also integral to the film’s visual identity. Marvel’s teaser poster featured green mist surrounding a hooded, armored figure, and the Avengers logo has appeared in green in promotional materials. Together with the sigil on the floor, the display is designed to immerse viewers in Doom’s world.

It’s no coincidence that the villain is at the forefront of the marketing strategy. Robert Downey Jr., who spent years as Tony Stark, takes on the role of Victor von Doom, with the casting announcement made in July 2024 alongside the return of the Russo brothers. Downey has even crafted his own backstory for the character and contributed ideas for the costume.

Joe Russo has described Doom as one of Marvel’s most intricate characters, always several steps ahead. The trailer that premiered at CinemaCon in April was made public in July, with a new look revealed at D23 in August, showcasing Doom battling the Avengers and unleashing green energy blasts at Thor. A recent ‘Silence Your Phones’ theater promo also displayed Doom’s powers rendered with Jack Kirby’s iconic crackling energy dots, known as Kirby Krackle, for the first time in live action.

Licensed merchandise has even hinted at a new title for the character. Funko collectibles from a Concept Series collection refer to him as Lord Doom, emphasizing his royal status and connection to Latveria. This version depicts a green military-style uniform with gold detailing instead of heavy armor, though it remains to be seen how this will be represented in the film.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to hit U.S. theaters on December 18, 2026, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, marking their return to the MCU since ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in 2019. The script was penned by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely, with the film initially slated for early May 2026 before being pushed to December. Its sequel, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ is scheduled for December 17, 2027.

The cast features a blend of actors from various franchises. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn lead the Fantastic Four, while Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, and Paul Rudd represent the Avengers. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen return from the X-Men universe, and a teaser has confirmed Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers.

Marvel describes the narrative as a convergence of heroes from three distinct universes facing a catastrophic threat. With statues, standees, and popcorn buckets appearing globally, the studio is clearly banking on the spectacle of Doom’s arrival. Fans in Argentina have just received their own taste of this excitement.
