Donald Trump recently addressed concerns about his proposal to put tariffs on films made overseas. The former president assured fans that James Bond movies, which are set in England, would not be impacted by the new plan.

The 007 films often shoot in the famous Pinewood Studios in England and in various locations around the world.

At a press conference, Trump was asked about the tariff plan and how it might affect movies like James Bond. He explained that the U.S. plans to put tariffs on films made outside the country.

“As you know, we’re putting tariffs on… film, the moviemakers,” Trump said when speaking to The London Times. “And we’re going to be doing some tariffs to get them, because a lot of them have left this country. They all live here, the money comes from here, everything comes from here, but they make them in other countries. So, we’re gonna do something to bring them back, maybe to a large extent.”

However, Trump made it clear that James Bond fans have nothing to worry about. He reassured people that the famous spy franchise would not be affected.

“But James Bond has nothing to worry about, that I can tell you,” Trump added. “And you know, Sean Connery was a friend of mine. Sean Connery was responsible for my getting zoning in Aberdeen. He said, ‘Let the bloody bloke build his golf courses.’ I was like four years into the process, and it was impossible in Aberdeen… He was a great guy, Sean Connery.”

Trump’s announcement caused confusion, leading the White House to issue a statement saying that “no final decisions” had been made yet about the movie tariffs. The statement also mentioned that the Administration was exploring different options to protect the country’s national and economic security.

“The Administration is exploring all options to deliver on President Trump’s directive to safeguard our country’s national and economic security while Making Hollywood Great Again.”

In response to Trump’s announcement, Jon Voight and his producing partner Steven Paul revealed they had submitted a “comprehensive” plan to help the entertainment industry. Their proposal includes ideas like offering federal incentives for production, co-production deals with other countries, and subsidies for theater owners.

While the future of these proposed tariffs is still uncertain, it’s clear that many in Hollywood aren’t happy about the idea.
