‘Evil’ Star Mike Colter Reveals Scrapped Ideas for Season 5
Although ‘Evil’ concluded with its fourth season, Mike Colter reveals that the narrative was far from over. In an interview at Fan Expo Vancouver with The Direct, Colter discussed the original plans the creative team had for a potential fifth season before the show was ultimately canceled.
Colter shared that the cast and crew were taken aback by the show’s abrupt ending. They had anticipated several more seasons, particularly as the series gained traction after its transition to Paramount+.
Reflecting on the cancellation, Colter stated, “We were blindsided. We didn’t realize the show was gonna be pulled.” He noted that delays caused by COVID and the writers’ strike had led the team to hope for renewed momentum once circumstances normalized.
The actor mentioned that creators Robert and Michelle King had to advocate vigorously just to secure four additional episodes to wrap up the storyline adequately. Colter explained that the intention was to leave the series in a state that could allow for a revival if another network or streaming service expressed interest.
He elaborated, “The Kings had to fight to get four more episodes to bring some sort of closure to the show, as it were, leaving it in a place where they could pick it up if they wanted to.”
Colter also revealed some of the storylines envisioned for season 5. He indicated that numerous plot threads remained unresolved, particularly concerning characters like Leland Townsend, Kristen Bouchard, and her husband Andy. A significant mystery involved the potential connection between one of Kristen’s daughters and Leland.

Colter expressed particular interest in the direction of his character, David, a priest who began to exhibit stronger supernatural abilities by the end of season 4. These powers included the ability to see through others and potentially control them, with Colter hinting that this might lead to David’s gradual corruption.
He remarked, “I was interested in seeing where that was gonna go and how far he could take that in terms of being able to transfer himself into someone’s body and be able to control them, and also how that would also maybe corrupt him.”
Series co-creator Robert King had also previously discussed plans for another season. In statements to TV Insider, King indicated that season 5 would delve into darker narratives related to the legal system and the influence of demonic forces within the courts, with Kristen expected to play a more significant role in these arcs.
While there are currently no formal plans to bring back Evil, fans remain hopeful for the supernatural drama’s return. The series finale intentionally left the storyline open, particularly after David and Kristen relocated to the Vatican to continue their investigations together.
Evil first premiered on CBS in 2019 before transitioning to Paramount+, where it cultivated a dedicated fanbase due to its unique blend of horror, mystery, and psychological drama. The series featured performances from Mike Colter, Katja Herbers, Michael Emerson, and Patrick Brammall.
