First Look at ‘Marty, Life Is Short’ Trailer Has Fans Talking
Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for ‘Marty, Life Is Short’, a feature documentary celebrating the life of comedy icon Martin Short, and it promises to be one of the most emotionally resonant films of the year.
Touted as the definitive documentary about the beloved comedian, the film combines classic career highlights with new interviews and exclusive home movies. Directed by Lawrence Kasdan, known for ‘The Big Chill’ and ‘Body Heat’, it is executive produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard through their Imagine Documentaries banner.
The documentary chronicles over 50 years of Short’s career, from his beginnings on SCTV and ‘Saturday Night Live’ to his film roles and Broadway achievements. Friends and collaborators such as Steve Martin, Eugene Levy, Tom Hanks, and the late Catherine O’Hara share their insights on what makes Short a unique figure in the entertainment industry.
In the trailer, Levy remarks, “In this business, in the world of comedy, there’s nobody faster, there’s nobody smarter, and there’s nobody funnier.”

The film carries significant emotional weight, especially given the recent passing of Catherine O’Hara, one of Short’s closest friends. Her interview was filmed prior to her death, adding a poignant layer to her appearance in the documentary.
Short has also faced profound personal losses throughout his life, including the deaths of his parents, his wife Nancy in 2010, and his daughter Katherine earlier this year.
Short’s beloved alter ego Jiminy Glick makes a cameo in the trailer, humorously stating, “Well, they’re making a documentary on everyone.” This moment encapsulates why Short has remained a beloved figure, finding humor even amidst sincerity.
Produced by Sara Bernstein, Meredith Kaulfers, Christopher St. John, Justin Wilkes, and Blair Foster, ‘Marty, Life Is Short’ is set to premiere globally on Netflix on May 12. For those who have followed Short’s journey and are curious about his resilience through decades of triumph and heartache, this film promises to offer profound insights.
