First Saturday Box Office Reports for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Show Record-Breaking Potential
Box office analysts have been closely monitoring updates over the past two days, as Tom Holland’s latest portrayal of Peter Parker continues to break records in real time. What began as an already impressive Thursday preview has turned into a fierce competition for the highest opening weekend ever.
The excitement has only grown with the arrival of Saturday’s figures. Following Friday’s astonishing $168 million, industry experts have been recalibrating their predictions to see just how close ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ can come to dethroning the box office’s most formidable record.
The latest estimates indicate that Saturday’s earnings reached $99 million, bringing the film’s domestic total to over $267 million with one day still to report. This Saturday figure has left the weekend record in a state of uncertainty, heavily reliant on how Sunday’s actuals are reported by Sony.
According to Deadline, Sony’s official estimate suggests the three-day weekend could finish at $325 million, which would mark the second-largest opening in North American history, trailing only ‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ record of $357.1 million. However, other analysts believe the actual figure could soar to $350 million or more, keeping the possibility of breaking the record alive.
The race for the record is incredibly tight. Deadline reported that if ‘Brand New Day’ surpasses $105 million on Sunday, its chances of overtaking ‘Endgame’s’ opening weekend would significantly improve, making the final outcome hinge on just a few million dollars.
The film’s Friday performance alone shattered a major record. The $168 million single-day total, which included a previously record-breaking $72 million from Thursday previews, comfortably surpassed ‘Endgame’s’ first-day record of $157.4 million, despite the differing structures of the two films’ preview periods.
To provide context, ‘Brand New Day’s’ preview screenings began at noon on Thursday, with early access for Prime Video subscribers even earlier on Wednesday, while ‘Endgame’s’ previews started at 6 p.m. This additional lead time allowed ‘Brand New Day’ to accumulate more screening hours, even if the comparison isn’t perfectly direct.
Beyond the impressive numbers for Spider-Man, this weekend is shaping up to be a historic moment for the entire North American box office. With ‘The Odyssey’ still performing well in its third weekend at approximately $51 million, the overall weekend total is projected to reach $434 million, surpassing the $402 million achieved during ‘Endgame’s’ original opening weekend and marking the largest weekend in U.S. box office history.

Pre-release estimates for ‘Brand New Day’ ranged from $180 million by conservative analysts to $250 million from more optimistic forecasters, indicating that the film has already exceeded even the most ambitious predictions. Regardless of Sunday’s final numbers, ‘Brand New Day’ has firmly established its place among the largest openings in cinematic history.
