Frankie Muniz Teases Fans with Behind-the-Scenes Peek at ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Revival: “Always good to have Mom and Dad around!!”
Back in 2016, Bryan Cranston first shared his interest in a Malcolm in the Middle reunion. By 2021, Frankie Muniz revealed on Steve-O’s podcast that Cranston was actively writing a script for a reunion movie. He also mentioned that most of the original cast was ready to return—except for one unnamed person.
By December 2024, Disney+ officially announced a four-episode ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ revival, with Muniz, Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek reprising their roles. The story will follow Malcolm and his daughter as they attend Hal and Lois’ 40th wedding anniversary party.
Originally pitched as a two-hour movie, the project was restructured into four 30-minute episodes. Filming was set to begin in April 2025, aligning with Muniz’s NASCAR schedule.
Now it appears that the filming has started since the show’s star Frankie Muniz shared a photo from the set with Cranston and Kaczmarek with a caption: “Always good to have Mom and Dad around!!“
The original run of ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ aired from January 9, 2000, to May 14, 2006. The show ran for seven seasons, with a total of 151 episodes. It followed the life of Malcolm, a young boy with a genius IQ, and his quirky, dysfunctional family. The show was ultimately canceled.
Not much is known about the revival except that some casting changes will be made while bringing back familiar faces. One major update is that Dewey, originally played by Erik Per Sullivan, will be recast. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark is set to take over the role, marking a significant shift for fans of the original series.
Meanwhile, Christopher Masterson (Francis) and Justin Berfield (Reese) are returning to reprise their roles as Malcolm’s older brothers. This suggests that the revival will continue the family’s chaotic dynamic, but with a fresh take on Dewey’s character.
