Amazon Prime Video has officially confirmed three major casting additions for its highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the popular PlayStation franchise. The production has tapped original voice actor Alastair Duncan to reprise his beloved role as Mimir for the television series. He is joined by Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka who will portray the iconic Huldra brothers. This news comes shortly after the studio revealed that Ryan Hurst would lead the show as the Spartan warrior Kratos.

Alastair Duncan’s return marks a significant win for fans who hoped the series would stay true to the video games. Duncan provided the voice and motion capture for the self-proclaimed smartest man alive in both the 2018 ‘God of War’ reboot and its sequel ‘God of War Ragnarok’. Mimir serves as a constant companion and source of lore for Kratos and his son Atreus throughout their journey across the realms. The character is known for his quick wit and distinct Scottish accent while being physically confined to a severed head attached to Kratos’ belt.

The series has also found its dwarven blacksmiths who are essential to the narrative and the crafting of the Leviathan Axe. Danny Woodburn, known for his work in ‘Seinfeld’ and ‘The Witcher’, will step into the role of the foul-mouthed and blue-skinned Brok. Acting opposite him is Jeff Gulka who has been cast as the neurotic and germaphobic brother Sindri. These two characters provide both comic relief and emotional depth as they assist the protagonists across the Norse lands. Their complex relationship with each other and the gods adds a necessary layer of heart to the grim journey.

Production for the series is moving forward rapidly under the guidance of showrunner Ronald D. Moore. Moore took over the creative leadership in late 2024 and brings experience from major sci-fi hits like ‘Battlestar Galactica’ and ‘For All Mankind’. Filming is scheduled to begin in Vancouver this March with a two-season order already in place. The story will adapt the 2018 video game arc where Kratos and Atreus travel to spread Faye’s ashes from the highest peak.

The cast list now includes several heavy hitters alongside the newly announced trio. Ryan Hurst is set to play Kratos while Mandy Patinkin has been confirmed as the All-Father Odin. Other notable additions include Max Parker as Heimdall and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor. Teresa Palmer will also appear as Sif to round out the Asgardian pantheon. With the core group now assembled, Amazon seems determined to match the high standard set by recent adaptations like ‘The Last of Us’.
