HBO Confirms ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Season 2 Release Window for 2027
HBO’s expansion of the Westeros universe has been a carefully managed endeavor, with the network strategically spacing out ‘House of the Dragon’ and its new companion series to maintain a steady flow of Game of Thrones content without overwhelming viewers. This careful planning makes each scheduling update for the franchise’s latest entry, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,’ particularly noteworthy.
The Dunk and Egg prequel debuted on January 18 and quickly emerged as one of HBO’s standout new offerings, prompting the network to greenlight a second season even before the first had aired. However, production for the follow-up season faced challenges, including historic flooding in Gran Canaria, Spain, which forced the crew to relocate mid-shoot and delayed the timeline.
Despite these setbacks, HBO chairman and CEO Casey Bloys has confirmed, per Deadline, that ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ season 2 is set to release in the first half of 2027. This announcement alleviates months of speculation regarding whether weather-related delays would disrupt the show’s intended annual release schedule.
This timeline aligns with what showrunner Ira Parker indicated earlier this year, stating to The Hollywood Reporter that the season is “expected to debut in the first half of 2027, yeah, absolutely.” Parker’s comments came amid production challenges, including a once-in-a-hundred-year storm that hit the location chosen for its typically dry conditions, highlighting the extent of the disruption.
Filming reached a significant milestone in early August when Dexter Sol Ansell, who portrays Egg, announced he had completed his portion of production. Peter Claffey, who plays Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall, is expected to finish shortly, allowing the series to transition fully into post-production.
Season 2 will adapt ‘The Sworn Sword,’ the second novella in George R.R. Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ series, picking up approximately a year and a half after the events of the first season. The narrative follows the duo into the Reach, where they serve a minor landed knight and become embroiled in a land dispute that gradually reveals connections to the ongoing fallout from the Blackfyre Rebellion.

The confirmed release window also aligns with HBO’s broader strategy for the Westeros franchise, with ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ and ‘House of the Dragon’ designed to alternate annual releases. With ‘House of the Dragon’ season 4 already confirmed as its final season and scheduled for 2028, a first-half 2027 premiere for Dunk and Egg’s next chapter maintains that yearly rhythm without any gaps for fans.
A tall tale that became legend.

For a show that has navigated flooding, location changes, and a tight production schedule, returning to its original release target is a significant achievement for HBO’s ambitious plan to deliver a consistent stream of Westeros content each year.
