Howard Stern’s SiriusXM Show Release Date on HBO Max Is Just Around the Corner
Howard Stern has established himself as the self-proclaimed “King of All Media” over more than four decades in radio, transforming morning drive time into essential listening long before podcasts became popular. However, for much of that time, the visual aspect of his show has remained frustratingly inaccessible to anyone outside of SiriusXM’s paywall.
This has primarily been due to Stern’s SiriusXM broadcast offering only brief video snippets rather than a comprehensive look behind the scenes. With his contract now extended through 2028 and a new season approaching, that limitation is finally being addressed in a way that longtime fans have desired for years.
HBO Max, The Howard Stern Production Company, and SiriusXM have reached an agreement to bring weekly filmed episodes of ‘The Howard Stern Show’ to the streaming platform starting Thursday, September 17. Each episode will adapt that week’s SiriusXM broadcast into a standalone streaming installment, with new episodes set to be released every subsequent Thursday.
Stern himself described this move as a long-awaited change in how much fans can see. “For years, my SiriusXM show has offered only brief video peeks,” he stated. “HBO convinced me to pull back the curtain and let the world watch; the amazing celebrities and musicians who drop by, our staff antics, and my conversations with Robin,” he added in comments shared with TheWrap.
The streaming rollout coincides with a broader restructuring of Stern’s on-air schedule. His new SiriusXM season kicks off September 14, and moving forward, he will host just one live show a week on Mondays, down from his previous two-day schedule. This single weekly broadcast will then be adapted into each Thursday’s streaming episode on HBO Max.
HBO and HBO Max content chief Casey Bloys expressed enthusiasm about what landing Stern means for the platform. “Howard has changed radio and media at large with his ability to draw the most out of his guests and cultivate a following like no other,” he said, praising Stern’s unique voice in comments reported by Deadline.
SiriusXM’s leadership echoed that excitement regarding the partnership. The satellite radio giant has emphasized that Stern’s exclusive live broadcasts and extensive archive will remain committed to SiriusXM through 2028, positioning the HBO Max deal as an expansion of his reach rather than a departure from the platform that has hosted his show for over two decades.
In addition to the flagship weekly episodes, HBO Max’s version of the show is expected to feature extra content alongside each installment, providing longtime fans with a more comprehensive view of what happens during tapings that have historically been mostly off-camera. While details on these extras have not been fully disclosed, the focus has consistently been on showcasing more of the celebrity interviews, staff dynamics, and Stern’s rapport with longtime co-host Robin Quivers.
For a broadcaster who has spent decades redefining what a radio show could be, transitioning into a weekly streaming format marks another evolution in an already unique career trajectory. Whether the HBO Max version alters how audiences engage with ‘The Howard Stern Show’ compared to its radio origins remains to be seen, but the September 17 premiere date provides longtime fans with a clear date to anticipate.
