Summer 2026 has turned into a surprisingly busy season for dinosaur films, and ‘The End of Oak Street‘ stands out as one of the more unique entries in this competitive lineup. Directed by David Robert Mitchell, known for ‘It Follows,’ this marks his first film in nearly eight years and embraces a nostalgic, Amblin-style sci-fi vibe reminiscent of 1980s family adventures, all while being grounded in a genuine scientific premise.

The narrative follows the Platt family after a mysterious cosmic event transports their entire suburban block into a prehistoric era teeming with dinosaurs. Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor star as parents Denise and Greg, with Maisy Stella and Christian Convery portraying their children Audrey and Brian, as the family struggles to survive and find a way back home in a suddenly hostile environment.

With many contemporary blockbusters conditioning audiences to expect bonus scenes during or after the credits, many moviegoers have been curious if ‘The End of Oak Street’ adheres to this trend. The straightforward answer is: there is no post-credits scene in the film. Viewers can exit the theater as soon as the story concludes without missing any additional content.

This confirmation aligns the film with several recent releases that have chosen to forgo the now-standard stinger format, including this year’s ‘Supergirl.’ Given the film’s self-contained premise rather than any franchise aspirations, the choice to conclude without a teaser for a sequel or expanded universe is consistent with its overall nostalgic tone.

Instead of a mid-credits or post-credits scene, ‘The End of Oak Street’ features a quieter epilogue integrated into its main runtime. The film revisits the Platt family approximately two years after their adventure, revealing that Denise authored a book about their experiences, also titled ‘The End of Oak Street,’ while Audrey was accepted into Cornell to study alongside the renowned astronomer Carl Sagan.

This type of conclusive ending aligns with the film’s overall tone, wrapping up the family’s journey on a hopeful note rather than leaving the possibility of a sequel open. Following the credits, viewers will also see a dedication to David Robert Mitchell’s father, Robert Allen Mitchell, who passed away in 2024, adding a personal touch to the film’s conclusion beyond its dinosaur-filled narrative.

‘The End of Oak Street’ hits theaters and IMAX across North America on August 14, with international audiences already having access starting August 12. The film runs for 99 minutes and boasts an estimated production budget of $80 million, with J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella producing through Bad Robot alongside Mitchell, who also wrote and directed.

The movie has received a mixed critical reception so far, debuting in theaters amid a unique dinosaur movie showdown against ‘Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie’ this season. Regardless of critics’ final verdict on its execution, one lingering audience question has a clear answer: there’s nothing waiting in the credits, so feel free to leave once the Platt family’s story concludes, credits and all.
