J.K. Simmons Enjoys Spider-Man Joke at Citi Field During Mets Game

The New York Mets faced another challenging night at Citi Field on Tuesday, but one of the most entertaining moments had little to do with baseball. According to the team’s in-stadium entertainment and videos shared online, J.K. Simmons found himself in the midst of a perfect Spider-Man joke while watching the Mets take on the Cincinnati Reds.

Simmons was spotted in the crowd when a person dressed as Spider-Man suddenly appeared nearby, holding a copy of the Daily Bugle newspaper. The joke resonated with fans, given Simmons’ long-standing connection to the Spider-Man films. In Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy featuring Tobey Maguire, Simmons portrayed the loud and fiery newspaper editor J. Jonah Jameson.

His character is well-known for frequently shouting at Peter Parker and demanding photos of Spider-Man. One of his iconic lines was, “Get me pictures of Spider-Man!” This made the moment at the Mets game particularly humorous. Instead of Simmons pursuing Spider-Man for photos as in the films, Spider-Man appeared right next to him at the stadium, playfully turning the joke back on Jameson.

Simmons is not only a celebrated actor but also a devoted baseball fan, often supporting the Detroit Tigers, his hometown team. He even portrayed a Tigers manager in the film ‘For Love of the Game’ alongside Kevin Costner.

Another recognizable figure also made an appearance at Citi Field on Tuesday. Bill Fagerbakke, famously known as the voice of Patrick Star from ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’, threw out the first pitch and assisted in announcing the Mets’ starting lineup.

These fun celebrity moments provided fans with a reason to smile, especially as the Mets have been struggling this season. New York entered Tuesday’s game with a 22-32 record and had already lost four consecutive games after being defeated by Cincinnati in the series opener. Fans could only hope for a better performance from the team with Simmons cheering from the stands.
