Jeremy Allen White has built a reputation for intense dramatic performances, most notably as the stressed chef Carmy in the hit series The Bear. However, the actor recently revealed that he is looking to shift gears and try something much lighter in the future.

During a conversation with Kate Hudson for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, White admitted that he is very interested in starring in a romantic comedy. He told Hudson that although he has never worked in that genre before, the idea seems incredibly fun to him.

White clarified that he isn’t willing to sign on for just any script that comes his way. He explained that he is holding out for a “classic” story with lasting appeal, specifically citing When Harry Met Sally as the type of film he aspires to make.

Hudson, who has starred in several iconic romantic comedies, offered him some advice during their chat. She warned him that the genre is actually much more difficult than people realize and requires a very specific skillset to get right.

For now, White is still focused on heavy dramatic work as he films the upcoming biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere. He is set to play rock legend Bruce Springsteen, a role that required him to undergo significant preparation.
