John Boyega has just shared a big behind-the-scenes secret about his Star Wars character, Finn. Speaking at the “John Boyega: The Force of Talent” panel at C2E2 2025, the actor revealed what Finn was really going to say during the quicksand scene in The Rise of Skywalker, and it could have changed everything.

In the movie, there’s a moment where Finn, Rey, and others fall into quicksand. As they sink, Finn tries to tell Rey something, but we never hear what it is. Many fans have wondered for years what he was going to say.

Now we finally know.

Boyega said that in an alternate version of the scene, Finn shouted, “I’m a Jedi.” That version was filmed, but it didn’t make the final cut. If the filmmakers had kept that moment, Finn’s story would have taken a very different path.

He would have been clearly shown as Force-sensitive, meaning he could use the Force, just like Rey and the other Jedi.

This moment could have helped make Finn’s story much stronger. Many fans feel that his character had a lot of promise in The Force Awakens, but didn’t get much to do later in the trilogy. Some were disappointed that his potential as a Jedi was never fully explored.

Even though the final movie didn’t include the line, it still hinted that Finn had a connection to the Force. The idea wasn’t completely dropped, just left unclear, which many fans criticized over the years.
