Jon Abrahams is hinting that Scary Movie 6 will not only focus on classic horror parodies but will also take aim at recent viral sensations, including the internet horror phenomenon Backrooms.

In a recent interview, Abrahams suggested that the upcoming sequel will venture into new parody territory that fans might not anticipate. He indicated that contemporary horror trends are fair game this time, including stories that have gained traction online in recent years.

“There’s some stuff in there that you’re gonna be like, ‘How the hell did they do that?’ Coughs Backrooms, what?” Abrahams remarked, specifically mentioning the viral horror concept as one of the film’s unexpected targets, noting that Backrooms emerged just weeks before Scary Movie.

This comment has sparked lively discussions among fans, particularly since Backrooms has become one of the most recognized internet-born horror concepts. The idea, which features endless yellow office-like corridors and evokes a sense of being trapped in a strange liminal space, has inspired short films, games, and countless online interpretations.

According to early promotional materials, the film will not stop at Backrooms. Teasers indicate that several recent horror hits will be included in the parody lineup.

These reportedly encompass M3GAN, Sinners, Weapons, Terrifier 3, A Quiet Place, Annabelle, and Get Out. The Scream franchise is also anticipated to play a significant role in the story, maintaining the long-standing connection between Scary Movie and slasher films.

This film marks the franchise’s return after a lengthy 13-year hiatus. It is also the first installment since 2001 to involve the Wayans family directly in the writing process. Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans have reunited with Craig Wayans and Rick Alvarez to develop the script, with Michael Tiddes directing.

Scary Movie 6 will bring back familiar characters, including Cindy Campbell and her group, as they once again confront a masked killer linked to past events. The cast features returning stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall, alongside Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, and Anthony Anderson.

The plot revolves around a new wave of chaos when a killer believed to be connected to murders from 26 years ago resurfaces. While specific plot details remain limited, the film is expected to blend classic franchise humor with modern horror references.

Scary Movie 6 is set to release on June 5, and early remarks from the cast suggest that its approach to parody will be more contemporary, chaotic, and closely tied to today’s viral horror culture than ever before.
