Kelsey Grammer Calls Beast “The Martin Luther King of the Mutants”

Kelsey Grammer is set to return as Beast in the upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday, and he couldn’t be more excited. In a recent interview on The Jamie Kern Lima Show, Grammer opened up about how much the character means to him. His connection to Beast goes beyond just acting; it’s personal.
Grammer, known for playing Frasier Crane, got emotional when talking about Beast, a role he portrayed in X-Men: The Last Stand, Days of Future Past, The Marvels, and now, Avengers: Doomsday. Reflecting on Beast’s nature, he shared:
“I feel like it’s who I am.”
One part of the interview that really stood out was when Grammer compared Beast to Martin Luther King Jr.. For him, Beast is more than just a superhero—he’s a symbol of dignity and peace. Grammer explained:
“I love the character. I love his… he is a stalwart, upright, serious-minded, decent man. And that’s what I love about him. I think of him as being the Martin Luther King of the Mutants.”
Grammer admires Beast’s desire to avoid fighting whenever possible. He said:
“He’s got a dignity and a dream and is willing to fight for it — but slow to action in terms of fighting. He will always find every way he can not to have to fight. And then when it’s the last possible response, then it’s swift and severe. You know, give no quarter, expect none. And I liked that about him.”
What Grammer truly respects about Beast is his ethical conduct and his dedication to being a good person. He described Beast as a character who always tries to do the right thing, even when it’s difficult.
“He’s a man of real stature, and that’s what I intend to bring to him — ethical conduct. He’s a man who studies good and does his best to live by that. And I like that.”
Grammer also admitted that he felt a bit “crestfallen” when Nicholas Hoult took on the role of Beast in later X-Men films. While Hoult portrayed a younger version of the character, Grammer still felt like Beast was a part of him.
“They had the younger guy come on and play Beast for a couple. And I was a little crestfallen over that. I thought, ‘Oh gee whiz.’ But… I’ve always wanted to play him again.”
For Kelsey Grammer, Beast is not just a mutant or an action hero. He sees him as a philosopher and a leader, someone who values peace but knows when to fight. His portrayal of Beast is driven by a deep respect for the character’s moral compass.
Fans can’t wait to see Grammer bring Beast back to life in Avengers: Doomsday, set to hit theaters in May 2026. With his passion for the role and dedication to capturing Beast’s spirit, it’s sure to be a powerful comeback.
