Kevin Feige Teases ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Shocking Ending Fans Will Love
Kevin Feige is ramping up excitement among Marvel fans for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ hinting that the upcoming MCU event will feature an ending that promises to leave audiences both surprised and satisfied.
In a recent discussion, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was asked about what fans can anticipate from the next Avengers film. While he refrained from disclosing major details, he indicated that the film’s conclusion will spark plenty of conversation leading up to the release of ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’
“I don’t want to spoil anything, but I think [fans] will be incredibly satisfied and yet incredibly surprised of where it’s headed, and then we’ll have a hard time waiting a year for [Secret Wars],” Feige remarked.
These comments have only added to the intrigue surrounding ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which is anticipated to be one of the largest Marvel projects ever. The film will follow the major Avengers storyline after ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and will unite heroes from various corners of the Marvel universe.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously led Marvel through significant crossover events like ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ the screenplay is penned by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely, with McFeely returning after contributing to several earlier MCU films.
One of the most surprising aspects of the project is Marvel’s decision to bring back Robert Downey Jr., but this time in a completely different role. Rather than reprising his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Downey Jr. will portray Doctor Doom, one of Marvel’s iconic villains.
The narrative will unite various groups of heroes as they confront Doom’s escalating threat. The Avengers, Wakandans, the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men will all play pivotal roles as different universes collide.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ marks a significant turning point for Marvel’s Multiverse Saga, following a shift from its original plans. Initially announced as ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ with Kang the Conqueror set to be the primary antagonist, Marvel pivoted away from that storyline after Jonathan Majors’ exit from the franchise.
The studio later confirmed the return of the Russo brothers, the casting of Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, and the new title ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ in 2024. These changes have completely reshaped the next Avengers storyline, paving the way for characters from different Marvel eras to join forces.
The film is also set to strengthen Marvel’s growing connection between the current MCU and the previous X-Men films from 20th Century Fox. With the multiverse allowing various versions of characters to coexist, fans are anticipating several major surprises when the heroes finally converge.
Filming for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ took place in 2025, with production centered at Pinewood Studios in England along with additional locations. The movie is currently slated for a theatrical release on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU.
The sequel, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ is expected to continue the narrative and is set to premiere one year later on December 17, 2027. If Feige’s remarks are any indication, Marvel aims for ‘Doomsday’ to conclude with a significant cliffhanger that keeps fans engaged while they await the next chapter.
With the return of the Russo brothers, the introduction of Doctor Doom, and the reunion of heroes from various universes, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s most ambitious projects to date.
