AMC+’s revenge thriller premiered this Friday, featuring Catherine Zeta-Jones in a central role, and the question on viewers’ minds is already about the ‘Kill Jackie‘ ending explained. This 8-episode series draws inspiration from Nick Harkaway’s novel ‘The Price You Pay,’ penned under the pseudonym Aidan Truhen. The show dives deep into stylish and bloody cat-and-mouse thrills.

Zeta-Jones portrays Jackie Price, a fine art dealer who has maintained a low profile for 20 years after exiting the international drug trade. Her quiet existence is shattered when a group of elite hitmen known as the Seven Demons is contracted to eliminate her. Critics are divided on the series, which currently holds a Metascore of 40 based on 6 reviews.

The chaos begins with a betrayal from someone Jackie trusted. Her security agent, Karenina, advises her to negotiate with the Seven Demons, only for Jackie to discover that she is now their target. This revelation turns Karenina into an adversary, leading to the deaths of those closest to Jackie as she attempts to escape.

Jackie manages to flee with her assistant Charlie and her lawyer, Sam. Her wealth is secured in a high-security facility called Poltergeist, which becomes her primary resource. One critic points out that the Iceland-based operation also provides her with gadgets and weaponry.

Her past continues to haunt her. Jackie was pregnant when she left the drug trade two decades ago, prompting Charlie, who is an orphan, to question if Jackie is her mother. This turns out to be false, and shortly after, one of the Demons fatally stabs Charlie.

In a twist, Jackie allies with Zigor, a former head assassin of the Seven Demons seeking revenge. She also reconnects with her biological daughter, Gwen, who is more angry than surprised about her abandonment as a baby. By this point, only the Doc and Friedrich remain, setting the stage for the finale.

Jackie ultimately survives and defeats the Seven Demons, with six of the seven assassins meeting their end at her hands, either directly or indirectly, while the Doc joins her side.

Friedrich, the last original member, attempts to breach Jackie’s defenses from within. Gwen, still hurt by her mother, reveals the location of the safe house. Friedrich then takes the entire team hostage, forcing them into a circle with a gun at the center, promising that the first person to shoot someone will be set free.

No one pulls the trigger, which only drives Friedrich to intensify his threats. Just then, Zigor arrives, using his signature drones to launch a knife into Friedrich’s head. He avenges his wife’s death while technically adhering to his no-kill rule, as the drones executed the act.

The Doc’s betrayal serves as the biggest twist of the villains. Once married to Friedrich, she is worn down by his controlling nature and appears to have lingering feelings for Jackie, ultimately becoming the only original Demon on the new team.

Several storylines remain unresolved. The romantic tension between Jackie and Sam lacks a clear update, though they will continue to work together. Gwen’s reaction to discovering Jackie is her mother also remains open-ended, but her choice to stay suggests a potential softening of their relationship.

The closing scenes assemble a new crew. Zigor and Sean, the billionaire’s son who initially started as an enemy, join forces with Cleo, the seasoned art dealer who briefly betrayed Jackie. Together, they form a new perfect seven. The ending also hints at new family complications for Sean regarding his father’s wealth.

Whether this setup will be enough to captivate viewers remains to be seen. TheWrap described the show as stylish yet convoluted, with Zeta-Jones’ charisma carrying much of the weight. The Hollywood Reporter labeled it a drab misfire.
