Krysten Ritter Joins Marvel Panel as The Defenders Reunite for Final ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season
New York Comic Con transformed into a nostalgic experience during the Marvel Television and Marvel Animation presentation. The 90-minute panel, titled ‘Up Next From Marvel Television and Marvel Animation’, took place on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Empire Stage. Few returning faces evoke as much nostalgia as Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones.
Hosted by Brandon Davis, the panel featured Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of Television, Animation, Comics and Franchise, who led the presentation. It promised insights into the most anticipated upcoming Disney+ series, alongside special guests. Fans buzzed about the streaming slate following a series of recent shake-ups.
Then came the moment many had eagerly anticipated. Ritter joined Charlie Cox and Finn Jones onstage for a ‘The Defenders’ reunion to promote the final season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again‘. Photos from the event captured her in a striking red-and-black printed dress against the Comic Con press backdrop. Mike Colter was also scheduled to appear but missed the event due to a last-minute scheduling conflict.

Marvel officially confirmed during the panel that the series will conclude with its third season, set to arrive on Disney+ in 2027. This news had circulated for weeks following a report from TheWrap. The upcoming season is expected to consist of 8 episodes and wrapped filming in July.
Marvel also showcased new footage, which was quite striking. Matt Murdock finds himself in prison after confessing to being Daredevil to take down Wilson Fisk, crafting a new costume from an orange prison jumpsuit. A voiceover reveals him accepting his sentence as the cost of stopping Fisk.

The teaser also provided early glimpses of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand entering a government building, while Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye detonates a bomb inside the prison. Marvel confirmed that all four street-level heroes will appear together in the season, marking the first time since 2017.

For fans, the reunion is the highlight. Ritter, Cox, and Jones all spent time in Marvel’s earlier Netflix-era shows, and their return to a shared stage felt like a victory lap for a community that has long advocated for these characters. Cox humorously reacted to the final-season news, urging fans who have been rallying for the show to brace for reality.
Vincent D’Onofrio, Wilson Bethel, and Deborah Ann Woll are also returning for the season. Showrunner Dario Scardapane, whose contract was not renewed, is no longer involved, leaving uncertainty about who will complete the season. This makes the strong footage and cast energy at the panel even more remarkable.
The panel was packed beyond Ritter’s appearance. Marvel Television unveiled the title and logo of ‘Zodiac’, a live-action spy thriller set to begin filming in London this spring and debut on Disney+ in 2028. This finally clarifies a project fans had speculated about for weeks.
‘VisionQuest’ premieres on Oct. 14 on Disney+, featuring Paul Bettany, James Spader, Ruaridh Mollica, Emily Hampshire, and showrunner Terry Matalas discussing the show. Attendees also enjoyed a surprise screening of the first episode. Additionally, ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 3 received a first look ahead of its 2027 premiere, while ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Season 2 is set to debut on Jan. 13.

Marvel also announced three new two-part event series under the ‘Marvel Zombies’ banner, set to roll out between 2027 and 2029. Collectively, the panel painted a picture of a Marvel Television slate that is leaner yet still ambitious.
With the show concluding after its next season, this appearance serves as both a farewell and a celebration. The sight of three of the four Defenders onstage indicates that Marvel understands the goodwill this group possesses. It also suggests that the final season is being positioned as a significant event rather than a quiet finale.
Whether the finale can meet fan expectations remains to be seen, but the early footage and reunion energy provide a promising start. For Ritter, this moment reaffirmed that Jessica Jones still holds a place in Marvel’s future.
