Lana Condor Reveals She’s Pitched Herself to Return as Jubilee in the MCU’s ‘X-Men’ Reboot
Marvel’s mutant universe is finally coming together within the MCU, sparking speculation about which characters from the Fox era might transition alongside their actors. Few have been as vocal about wanting another chance as Lana Condor, who first portrayed one of the franchise’s most visually striking young heroes.
Lana Condor made her film debut as Jubilation Lee, known as Jubilee, in 2016’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse.’ This role introduced audiences to her signature yellow jacket and firework-generating powers, yet she had limited screen time. Since then, Condor has actively campaigned for another opportunity, expressing a deep attachment to the character that she feels has never faded.
Her campaign has reportedly evolved into actual discussions with those involved in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot. Condor has stated that she has spoken directly with filmmakers, advocating for a chance to bring Jubilee back to the screen, now with more experience and insight than she had as a teenager on her first film set.
The X-Men reboot is currently in development, with Jake Schreier, the director of ‘Thunderbolts,’ set to direct. Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are working on the screenplay. The film aims to introduce a new live-action version of the mutant team into the MCU’s main continuity following ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’
Condor has framed her interest in Jubilee as unfinished business rather than mere nostalgia. She has previously mentioned feeling like she barely scratched the surface of what the character could offer on screen, citing the character’s rich comic book history as proof that there’s still significant material to explore if given the chance.
In addition to her live-action role, Condor has maintained her connection to Jubilee through voice work, although a different actress voiced the character in Disney+’s animated series ‘X-Men ’97.’ The gap between her original film performance and any further appearances has only intensified her determination to advocate for a return.
Marvel’s broader X-Men plans remain under wraps, with no casting details confirmed for the reboot as of now. This uncertainty hasn’t deterred fans and former cast members from speculating about which Fox-era actors might reprise their roles, especially as franchise veterans like Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart have already made appearances in MCU projects related to the mutant storyline.
Condor’s approach is notable for how directly she has pursued this opportunity, rather than simply expressing interest from afar. Having reportedly presented her case to the very decision-makers behind the reboot, she now finds herself in a genuine waiting game to see if her efforts will bear fruit.
For a character with as much untapped potential as Jubilee, and an actress so committed to the role, fans may not have to wait much longer to discover whether persistence leads to an actual return.
