Lego has been steadily expanding its anime licensing efforts in recent years, securing deals for popular franchises like ‘One Piece’ and ‘Pokemon’, demonstrating that fans are eager for their favorite animated worlds to be transformed into plastic brick form. ‘Dragon Ball’ has consistently ranked high on fan wish lists for similar treatment, and recent developments suggest that this dream may soon become a reality.

The excitement began in June when leaks hinted at a Shenron Diorama as Lego’s inaugural ‘Dragon Ball Z’ product. This impressive 1,760-piece display set features a young Goku minifigure along with Dragon Balls and Nimbus cloud elements. At that time, sources indicated that this set would serve as a premium collector’s item under the Lego Icons line, acting as a trial run for something much larger.

Now, that larger rollout is taking clearer shape. According to leaker Brick Tap, who cites information from a user known as Buggy and other verified anonymous sources, Lego is gearing up for a complete ‘Dragon Ball Z’ theme in 2027 that will introduce a significant number of brand-new minifigure molds tailored specifically for the franchise’s characters.

A more recent leak has provided concrete details about this broader plan, revealing nine specific sets reportedly numbered 72361 through 72366. These sets are themed around iconic moments such as Goku vs. Raditz, Arrival on Namek, Z Fighters vs. Saiyans, Porunga and the Final Battle, Frieza’s Spaceship, and Kame House. Additionally, a standalone Buildable Vegeta figure and a smaller polybag set have emerged in the same leak, rounding out what appears to be an ambitious initial wave.

Fans are particularly thrilled about the focus on custom minifigure molds rather than relying on existing parts from Lego’s catalog. Since ‘Dragon Ball Z’ follows Goku as the main character before his sons Gohan and Goten take on larger roles, a wave featuring new molds would allow for accurate representation of unique details, such as Goku’s iconic spiky hairstyle or the bulky shoulder armor worn by Frieza’s henchmen.

This level of character-specific detail has historically been challenging for Lego to achieve with standard minifigure parts. The introduction of custom molds signals that the company is treating this theme with the seriousness it deserves, rather than merely a quick licensing cash grab. Given the series’ reliance on dramatic power-up transformations and instantly recognizable silhouettes—from Piccolo’s Namekian design to Vegeta’s Saiyan armor—getting these molds right will likely be crucial for resonating with long-time fans.

Most of the newly leaked sets are aimed at ages six to twelve, while the Kame House set reportedly carries an 18-plus rating, indicating it will be the most detailed and complex build in the wave. This positions it similarly to the earlier Shenron Diorama, despite the two sets being released during different windows.

Lego has yet to confirm any of these details, and there has been no official statement regarding a ‘Dragon Ball Z’ theme. However, with reports suggesting a November 2026 release for the Shenron set and an April 2027 debut for the broader nine-set wave, fans could see the first pieces of Lego’s ‘Dragon Ball’ ambitions on store shelves before the year concludes.

For a franchise with such a dedicated fanbase, a complete theme centered around accurate, purpose-made minifigures could become one of Lego’s most significant anime crossovers to date.
