Leonardo DiCaprio Reveals Why He Will Never Direct a Movie
Leonardo DiCaprio recently admitted that he has absolutely no intention of ever stepping behind the camera to direct a feature film. During a conversation at a recent event in New York City, the actor explained that his close working relationship with Martin Scorsese has effectively discouraged him from trying. According to DiCaprio, witnessing the legendary filmmaker’s mastery firsthand has set a standard he feels he could never reach.
The Oscar-winning actor was candid when discussing the topic, noting that people often ask him if he plans to transition into directing. His answer remains a firm no because he believes he could never produce anything close to what Scorsese creates. He jokingly asked the audience why he would even attempt it given the comparison.
However, DiCaprio did express one specific regret regarding his time on set with the director. He noted that he often wishes he had been less immersed in his own character work so he could have observed Scorsese’s process more closely. instead of focusing solely on the depth of his roles, he would have preferred to be more of a voyeur to study how the director operates.
The duo has collaborated on numerous successful projects, and their creative partnership involves months of debate and preparation before filming even begins. DiCaprio described this dynamic as a profound learning experience that he continues to value deeply. Despite his vast knowledge of the industry, he seems content leaving the directing duties to his mentor.
