‘Lioness’ Season 3 Episode 7 Recap & Ending Explained: Joe’s Escape and Ongoing Struggles
In Taylor Sheridan’s gripping espionage thriller, the tension surrounding the mystery of Joe McNamara’s kidnapping has intensified throughout the third season. With each episode, the stakes have risen, leading to a rescue that always seemed just out of reach for the CIA’s elite special ops team.
The kidnapping plot escalated dramatically when Renat handed Joe over to Babat, an Iranian mercenary with a sinister agenda. As Joe’s captors remained one step ahead, the Lioness team worked tirelessly to intercept the aircraft intended to smuggle her out of the country.
In episode 7, titled “Kiss the Girls,” the interception finally comes to fruition. With Babat’s flight plans thwarted, he scrambles for a new escape route, likely heading toward Mexico, which gives American authorities a tighter window to monitor suspicious activities.
The situation takes a turn when local Texas police spot Babat’s SUV, still carrying Joe and a group of armed operatives, due to its suspicious license plates. When the vehicle is pulled over, Babat orders Joe to remain silent and threatens her life if she disobeys. However, their suspicious behavior prompts the officers to alert their superiors, and that information quickly reaches the Lioness team.
Instead of waiting for a potentially delayed rescue, Joe seizes the moment. As chaos ensues, she takes advantage of the confusion to escape her captors and makes a desperate bid for freedom.

This decision ignites a chaotic firefight in the streets, pitting unprepared local police against Babat’s heavily armed crew. Eventually, reinforcements arrive, allowing Bobby and Cruz to reach Joe and assure her of her safety.
Despite Joe’s safe recovery, the episode avoids a neat, celebratory reunion. Her injuries, including a missing toe from her captivity, overshadow any immediate homecoming, while her husband Neal struggles to maintain the facade of normalcy for their daughters after a week of covering for her absence.
Their eldest daughter, Kate, is skeptical of Neal’s explanation that Joe was away for work, and her doubts are ultimately validated. Instead of walking straight into the house upon her return, Joe calls Neal from outside, tearfully explaining that she cannot come home yet.
Joe emphasizes the need to confront those responsible for her abduction before she can safely return to her family, determined to keep that danger away from them. This poignant ending transforms what should have been a triumphant rescue into a far more complex emotional scenario.
With Joe rescued but the overarching conspiracy still unresolved, the pressing question remains: who orchestrated her kidnapping? Meade and her husband break their usual rule of not discussing work at home, contemplating the possibility that Ukraine may be involved, setting the stage for significant developments as the season approaches its conclusion.
As the finale looms, ‘Lioness’ is poised for an explosive showdown rather than a tidy resolution.
