Marlon Wayans has revealed that the reunion of the Wayans brothers for Scary Movie 6 stemmed from a deeply personal wish from their late father. The actor and comedian explained that it was his father’s final request that brought the family together creatively after years of pursuing separate projects.

In a recent interview with GQ, Marlon Wayans discussed a poignant conversation he had with his father, Howell Wayans, shortly before his passing in 2023. This heartfelt moment influenced the decision to reunite for the upcoming film.

“My father told me before he passed, ‘You and your brothers should work together again,’” Marlon recalled. He shared that this request was made during a hospital visit when his father was gravely ill. Marlon vividly remembered the emotional exchange, stating, “I looked at my dad on that hospital bed and I said, ‘Alright, for you… I promise.’”

He emphasized that honoring that promise became a driving force behind the project. For Marlon, reuniting the family was more than just creating another comedy; it was about fulfilling a significant wish for their father and honoring their shared legacy.

Marlon also reflected on the challenges the brothers faced in maintaining their creative connection over the years. Each brother has carved out individual careers in film and television, often working on different schedules. He humorously noted, “It’s hard for four Black men to stay together. Look at New Edition. And in this case, we’ve got four Bobby Browns.”

Despite these obstacles, Marlon shared that their father had unwavering faith in their ability to create magic together. Howell Wayans firmly believed in their chemistry and potential as a family. Marlon recounted his father’s encouragement, saying, “You guys make magic together. I think you should do it.” He also remembered his father’s final urging: “Do it for me.”

That moment resonated with Marlon long after his father’s death. He made a heartfelt promise, stating, “All right — for you.” He added, “My father put his hand out, and I shook it and promised him that I would make this happen. And I did. And I feel complete.”

Scary Movie 6 marks the Wayans family’s return to the franchise that played a pivotal role in their early 2000s success. The original films became iconic comedy hits by parodying horror movies and pop culture trends, establishing the brothers as significant voices in the genre.

The new installment is set to premiere on June 5 and will continue the franchise’s tradition of spoofing well-known films. The cast features returning stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall, alongside Marlon and Shawn Wayans. Additional cast members include Damon Wayans Jr., Anthony Anderson, Kai Cenat, and more.

For Marlon Wayans, this project transcends mere comedy. It is a promise fulfilled and a tribute to a final wish that united his family once more.
