Marvel Studios has been meticulously piecing together the cast for its highly anticipated ‘X-Men’ reboot, gradually unveiling members of the ensemble over the summer as negotiations and testing unfolded behind the scenes. With most of the team now secured, fans have been eagerly awaiting news on which mutants remain unannounced.

That anticipation has been shortened for one particular character. According to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, ‘Gen V’ and ‘Scream 7’ star Asa Germann is in the final stages of negotiations to portray Warren Worthington III, better known to comic enthusiasts as Angel.

Interestingly, Germann was not initially considered for this role. He had auditioned for Cyclops earlier in the casting process, a role that ultimately went to Kit Connor. However, Marvel was reportedly impressed by Germann’s audition, leading them to offer him the role of the winged hero instead.

Angel joins a cast that has been steadily forming since Marvel began revealing its lineup throughout the summer. The confirmed cast includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm, with Adam Driver set to portray the film’s main antagonist, Mister Sinister.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Warren Worthington III first appeared in the original ‘X-Men’ No. 1 back in 1963, making him one of the earliest founding members. His signature feature is the feathered wings that allow him to fly, although his comic book history also includes a darker storyline where the villain Apocalypse mutilated him and replaced his wings with metallic, projectile-firing versions.

This will not be Angel’s first appearance on the big screen. The character has previously been portrayed in live-action twice, with Ben Foster taking on the role in 2006’s ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ and Ben Hardy stepping in a decade later for 2016’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse.’ Germann’s casting would mark the character’s third live-action portrayal and his debut within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For Germann, this role adds another superhero credit to a growing résumé. He is best known for his role as Sam Riordan in Prime Video’s ‘Gen V,’ a college-set spinoff of ‘The Boys’ that follows a group of young superpowered students, and he recently appeared as Lucas Bowden in ‘Scream 7.’

Marvel has not commented on the casting when approached by The Hollywood Reporter, keeping official confirmation pending even as reports indicate that discussions are nearing completion. This pattern of silence has become typical for the studio during this casting process, with most roles only being officially confirmed once contracts are finalized.

Behind the scenes, Jake Schreier, who previously directed ‘Thunderbolts,’ is at the helm of the project, which is currently set for a theatrical release on May 5, 2028. With nearly two years until that date, Marvel has ample time to continue solidifying the remaining cast before production begins.

Given the significant buzz surrounding the studio’s X-Men casting this summer, Germann’s addition is likely to spark renewed fan speculation about who else might be waiting for an official announcement. For now, Angel’s inclusion adds another founding member from the original 1963 comic lineup to the expanding ensemble.
