Additionally, a Collector’s Edition priced at $49.99 will include a 50-page photo booklet and will be released through Lionsgate Limited.

‘Michael’ is a biographical film that chronicles the life of pop icon Michael Jackson, starting from his early years with the Jackson 5 in the 1960s and continuing through to the Bad World Tour in the late 1980s. The film captures both his musical rise and the pressures of global fame.

Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, portrays the role of Michael Jackson, marking his acting debut. The younger version of Michael is played by Juliano Valdi, with a supporting cast that includes Nia Long, KeiLyn Durrel Jones, Laura Harrier, Jessica Sula, Mike Myers, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo.

Development for the project began in 2019 when producer Graham King secured the rights to create a film about Jackson’s life. The screenplay was penned by John Logan, and Lionsgate officially announced the project in 2022. Antoine Fuqua joined as director in 2023, with casting continuing through 2024.

Filming faced delays due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, but production ultimately took place between January and May 2024. The film underwent changes during post-production, leading to adjustments in the script and structure due to legal considerations. Reshoots were conducted in 2025, which increased the overall production costs.

‘Michael’ premiered in April 2026 in Berlin before its international rollout. It was released in the UK by Universal Pictures and in the United States by Lionsgate, performing strongly at the box office with around $850 million in worldwide earnings, making it one of the highest-grossing biographical films ever.

Despite its box office success, the film has received mixed reviews from critics. While many praised Jaafar Jackson’s performance, some felt the narrative was too safe and polished. Nevertheless, discussions for a sequel are already underway.

With the digital and physical release now confirmed, audiences who missed ‘Michael’ in theaters will soon have the opportunity to watch it at home and form their own opinions about the film.
