‘Minions & Monsters’ Streaming Release Date on Peacock Set for October 28
Summer 2026 was packed with animated blockbusters. ‘Toy Story 5’ ruled the box office, and a live-action ‘Moana’ followed closely behind. ‘Minions & Monsters’ debuted right in the midst of this frenzy on July 1.
This film marks the seventh entry in the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise and the third in the Minions prequel series. Set in 1920s Hollywood, it narrates how the Minions took over the film industry, rose to fame, faced downfall, and ultimately unleashed monsters upon the world. Directed by Pierre Coffin, who also voices the Minions, the film was co-written with Patrick Delage and Brian Lynch.
Now, the movie is making its way to streaming. Variety reports that ‘Minions & Monsters’ will be available on Peacock starting Wednesday, October 28, following its impressive $523 million box office run. This streaming release comes just 119 days after its theatrical launch, arriving two days earlier than some forecasts.
The film has a runtime of 90 minutes and is rated PG for its action, language, and some rude humor. It features a star-studded cast, including Coffin, Trey Parker, Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeff Bridges, Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan, and Phil LaMarr, with filmmaker George Lucas also making an appearance.
In addition to ‘Minions & Monsters’, Peacock is adding ‘Minions’, ‘Despicable Me’, and ‘Despicable Me 2’, making it a perfect opportunity for a binge-watch marathon. The platform will also feature bonus content about the film’s early Hollywood backdrop, casting, and composer John Powell’s score.
For those eager to watch, the movie became available for digital rental and purchase on August 11, with physical copies released on September 8. Currently, Peacock Premium is priced at $10.99 per month with ads.
Despite its impressive final numbers, the film’s theatrical journey was more complex. It opened at No. 1 with a franchise-low three-day debut of $36.4 million, totaling $61.4 million over the five-day July 4 weekend. In contrast, ‘Despicable Me 4’ earned $122 million during the same period in 2024, while ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ opened to approximately $123 million in 2022.
Nevertheless, it emerged as a success. The production budget was around $85 million, and the film performed notably better internationally, with a worldwide opening of $146.4 million across 72 territories.

Critics have responded positively, with ‘Minions & Monsters’ earning a Certified Fresh rating of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes from 155 reviews, the highest score for any Illumination release. The critics’ consensus deemed it the most enjoyable entry in the franchise to date.
Reviewers praised it as a heartfelt tribute to classic filmmaking, filled with visual gags and Easter eggs that warrant multiple viewings. Audience reactions were slightly more reserved, with the film receiving an A- CinemaScore, while its Rotten Tomatoes audience score stands at 75% from over 1,000 verified ratings.

This disparity between critic and audience reception highlights the significance of the film’s debut on Peacock. Families who opted out of theaters, whether due to a busy release schedule or rental costs, can now enjoy the movie at no additional charge. Given the critical acclaim, a streaming revival could help it connect with the audience it missed in July.
Additionally, this move provides the Minions with a new home just in time for fall. With the earlier films joining the lineup, Peacock is set to become a comprehensive destination for fans of the franchise.
