‘Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe’ U.S. Release Date and Trailer
‘Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe’ is officially set to hit North American theaters, with Bandai Namco Filmworks announcing that the film will be released in U.S. cinemas on May 15. Fans can catch early screenings a day earlier on May 14 in select locations, and tickets are already available for purchase.
This new installment continues the Hathaway storyline that began in 2021 with ‘Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway.’ Set in the Universal Century timeline, it follows Hathaway Noa as he leads the anti-government group Mafty. The narrative delves into his struggles against the Earth Federation and his connections to iconic characters like Amuro Ray and Char Aznable.
The first film received acclaim for its stunning animation and visual style, although it garnered mixed reviews regarding its darker scenes and pacing. It currently holds an 86% critic score and a 77% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The new film, ‘The Sorcery of Nymph Circe,’ takes place years after the previous events, following Hathaway as he leads Mafty in an escalating rebellion against the Federation. The group targets high-ranking government officials as tensions mount. Simultaneously, Hathaway grapples with emotional turmoil and personal conflict, particularly after encountering a mysterious young woman named Gigi Andalucia, whose presence significantly influences the story’s direction.
The film also features other pivotal characters, including Federation officer Kenneth Sleg, who is orchestrating a counter-operation against Mafty. Additionally, Handley Yoxon from a criminal investigation unit becomes embroiled in a separate secret agenda. Their paths intertwine as the narrative builds towards a significant confrontation linked to a political event in Adelaide.
Attendees of the U.S. release will receive special bonuses in participating theaters, including collectible cards showcasing designs of the Gundam mobile suits featured in the film. The primary machines highlighted are the Xi Gundam and the RX-104FF Penelope, with each card featuring artwork based on key mecha from the movie, available in three distinct versions.
The Hathaway series continues to thrive in Japan, where the franchise has already amassed over 2.6 billion yen. Directed by Shukou Murase and produced by Sunrise, the film sees Kensho Ono returning to voice Hathaway Noa. The soundtrack includes unexpected music choices, featuring tracks like ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ by Guns N’ Roses and ‘Snooze’ by SZA.
With the U.S. release now confirmed, international fans will soon have the opportunity to experience the story on the big screen.
This release marks a significant moment for Gundam enthusiasts outside Japan, especially as Hathaway has been establishing a strong reputation for its serious tone and intricate animation. It also appears to blend political drama with personal emotion, a challenging balance in mecha narratives. What are your thoughts on this new Gundam movie coming to theaters?
