Netflix is set to unveil a unique school experience with ‘Minerva Academy’, a series that stands out in its teen drama offerings. This new show features eight episodes and will be available starting September 22 exclusively on Netflix, promising a back-to-school narrative like no other. It presents a distinct take on campus life.

For those contemplating adding ‘Minerva Academy’ to their watchlist, the premise alone serves as an enticing hook. This Italian drama unfolds within a military high school in Naples, evoking a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era. Here’s everything we know so far.

The series premieres globally on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Netflix plans to release all eight episodes simultaneously, making it perfect for binge-watchers eager to dive into the entire story over the weekend.

While the exact release time remains unknown, Netflix has confirmed the eight-episode format but has yet to disclose specific episode titles, runtimes, or a weekly rollout strategy. Viewers should keep an eye on their Netflix homepage as the date approaches.

In France, audiences are already aware of how they will be viewing the series. The episodes will be available in the original Italian language with French subtitles.

The series has also made its debut in person, having been previewed at the 2026 Giffoni Film Festival, which took place from July 17 to 25.

The three young leads carry significant emotional weight in the story. Ciro Minopoli stars as Salvo, marking his first major role, while Biagio Venditti portrays Vincenzo and Margherita Buoncristiani plays Camilla, also in her first significant credit. Venditti is the most recognizable of the trio, having appeared in the 2024 film ‘L’ultima settimana di settembre.’

The adult cast brings a wealth of experience. Massimiliano Gallo plays the formidable commander Achille Giordano and has featured in the Netflix film ‘Vanished Into the Night.’ Cristiana Capotondi portrays Laura Canali, a philosophy teacher who represents the sole civilian voice in a strictly military environment.

The ensemble cast is extensive, including Beatrice Savignani, Simone Secce, Giulio Brizzi, Nicole Malaj, and Alicia Edogamhe, along with Irene Maiorino, Raiz, and Michele Rosiello.

Behind the scenes, the talent is equally impressive. Ivan Silvestrini directed the series, with Roberto Sessa producing it for Picomedia, part of the Asacha Media Company group under Fremantle.

Netflix has released the official trailer, which portrays the show as a pressure cooker of emotions. The footage hints at a military high school setting filled with forbidden romances, rivalries, and hidden truths. This blend of secrecy and intense teen drama is sure to resonate with genre enthusiasts.

The trailer emphasizes the strict daily regimen at the academy, where students rise at dawn for flag-raising ceremonies, and mobile phones and civilian attire are prohibited. Military tactics and fencing are even part of the curriculum.

A notable rule for a teen series is the ban on romantic relationships at the academy. Fans of teen dramas know how well such restrictions typically play out.

At the core of the narrative lies a mystery. Salvo, a boy from a group home, enrolls in the school to uncover the fate of his missing best friend. This personal quest adds a deeper emotional layer beyond the usual boarding school rivalries.

Two contrasting classmates complicate his journey. Vincenzo aspires to follow in his father’s military footsteps, while Camilla, a privileged girl from Milan, is sent there by her father in hopes of reforming her behavior. Each arrives with their own motives, setting the stage for potential conflict.

The adults in the story are not mere background figures. The narrative also explores the lives of the officers and civilian teachers who guide these students while grappling with their own uncertainties and flaws. The strict regulations can safeguard the institution but also create an environment where information can easily vanish, making it the perfect backdrop for a missing person mystery.

The production showcases the fictional school’s grandeur, with the Royal Palace of Portici in Naples serving as a primary filming location, alongside Villa Campolieto in Ercolano. As Salvo seeks to uncover the truth about his best friend within these historic walls, one must wonder if the academy’s rules are designed to shape its students or to conceal what the commander wishes to keep hidden. Who do you suspect is already hiding the truth?
