New Image from ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 Reveals Rosario Dawson’s Exciting Return
Fans of ‘Ahsoka‘ have eagerly anticipated a continuation of the thrilling cliffhanger from the first season, and that wait is finally nearing its end. The series, created by Dave Filoni, left Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren in the distant galaxy of Peridea, pursuing Grand Admiral Thrawn and setting the stage for a long-awaited rescue mission for Ezra Bridger.
Disney has confirmed that season 2 is set to premiere on Disney+ on January 20, 2027. Rosario Dawson announced the date during Disney’s Upfront showcase, emphasizing that “the battles are bigger and the stakes are higher” as the new season unfolds.
A recent image from Empire magazine provides fans with a stunning glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming season. The photo features Dawson’s Ahsoka riding a large, shaggy, boar-like creature, lightsaber drawn and poised for action, against the rugged, alien landscape of Peridea, the same remote galaxy where season 1 concluded.

The production for the new season has reportedly seen significant upgrades. Instead of relying mainly on Volume-based virtual sets, filming has shifted to the United Kingdom, where large practical sets surrounded by blue screens have been constructed to give Peridea’s alien environment a more tangible and immersive feel compared to season 1.
The storyline is expected to unfold across two major arcs. Ahsoka and Sabine will continue their pursuit through Peridea while being hunted by Shin Hati, with their chase linked to the planet’s enigmatic Mortis mythology, leading to a showdown with Baylan Skoll, now portrayed by Rory McCann following the passing of original actor Ray Stevenson. Meanwhile, Grand Admiral Thrawn is regrouping Imperial remnants and Nightsister allies for a larger offensive against the New Republic, which includes Admiral Ackbar.
Hayden Christensen is also set to reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker, continuing to guide and challenge Ahsoka from beyond. Eman Esfandi will return as Ezra Bridger after his long-awaited comeback to the main cast. The returning ensemble also includes Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lars Mikkelsen, and Ivanna Sakhno, alongside familiar faces like Huyang, Chopper, and Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios.

Filoni has written all eight episodes of the new season and directed several alongside Bryce Dallas Howard, Jennifer Getzinger, and Anders Engström. This hands-on approach has helped maintain the continuity that made the first season feel like a direct extension of his work on ‘Star Wars Rebels’ and ‘The Clone Wars.’ This continuity has played a significant role in keeping fans engaged with Ahsoka’s journey, even during the lengthy gap between seasons.

As ‘Ahsoka’ marks the first live-action ‘Star Wars’ series release since ‘Andor’ season 2, expectations are high for Filoni to deliver a season that meets the anticipation. With the new imagery from Peridea, the confirmed returning cast, and a release date firmly set, this latest glimpse indicates that Lucasfilm is gearing up to build real momentum leading into January.
