A new live show inspired by ‘One Piece’ is taking over the WaterWorld stage at Universal Studios Hollywood, offering fans an exciting way to engage with the beloved pirate tale. This event is part of Fan Fest Nights 2026 and will run on select dates from late April to mid-May.

The performance highlights Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew as they embark on a unique adventure crafted specifically for the park. The narrative revolves around a quest for special seeds with extraordinary powers, while familiar foes like Buggy and the Marines create obstacles along the way. The show is filled with thrilling action, featuring stunts, water effects, explosions, and interactive moments with the audience.

Stephen Siercks noted that the concept emerged following last year’s positive reception. “In our first year of Fan Fest Nights, we were able to introduce ‘One Piece’ as one of our core anime experiences,” he remarked. “We just saw such overwhelming popularity and success from it, that we knew that there was more that we could activate around.”

This new iteration is larger and emphasizes storytelling. It combines a straightforward introduction to the characters with an original plot, making it accessible for both longtime fans and newcomers. The show runs for approximately 20 minutes and is designed to be fast-paced, loud, and easy to follow.

Developed with input from Universal Studios Japan, which has extensive experience in creating stage adaptations of the series, Siercks explained that the team closely examined their work and tailored it for the Hollywood venue. “We’ve taken a lot of inspiration from our Universal Studios Japan entertainment partners,” he explained, noting that their expertise significantly influenced the final product.

Beyond the main show, fans can meet characters, take photos, and enjoy themed food inspired by the series. The event area is designed to immerse visitors in the world of ‘One Piece’, rather than just serving as a standalone attraction.

Fan Fest Nights also features other attractions, including a mystery event with Scooby-Doo and a fantasy walk-through based on the Wizarding World, but the pirate show stands out as one of the main highlights this year.

Currently, ‘One Piece’ is making waves across various platforms, from manga updates to streaming releases and brand collaborations. This live show adds another dimension by transforming the narrative into an engaging, interactive experience.

This type of event illustrates the growing influence of anime outside Japan. It has evolved from being merely something to watch to an experience you can physically enter and enjoy. However, it’s crucial that these shows remain true to the characters to keep fans engaged.
