Universal Pictures has unveiled a new poster and a brief behind-the-scenes featurette for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film The Odyssey. This update comes just in time for tickets going on sale tomorrow, heightening excitement for one of the most awaited movies of 2026.

While the featurette does not showcase any new scenes from the film, it features interviews with cast and crew discussing the project’s grand scale and ambition. The new poster, however, offers fans a glimpse of one of the film’s significant threats, depicting Odysseus confronting a group of giant cannibal warriors known as the Laestrygonians.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film is described by Universal as a large-scale mythic action epic. Shot across various countries using cutting-edge IMAX film technology, this adaptation of Homer’s ancient tale The Odyssey will be presented in IMAX for the first time and is set to hit theaters globally on July 17, 2026.

In a statement from Universal Pictures, the studio emphasized that the film is crafted specifically for the big screen experience, highlighting its IMAX format as a crucial aspect of the production.

Alongside the new promotional materials, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that The Odyssey will also enjoy a special three-week screening run at Westwood’s historic Village Theatre before it undergoes major renovations. This arrangement was facilitated by Universal Pictures and the Village Directors Circle, a group of filmmakers led by Jason Reitman, who acquired the theater in 2024.

Jason Reitman expressed the significance of this event and the future of theatrical film experiences, stating, “There are many reasons to go to the movies, but few better than a three-week run of The Odyssey in 70mm at one of the most beautiful movie palaces in the country.”

He further remarked, “This American Cinematheque series is a preview of what we hope the restored Village Theatre will become. A home for great filmmakers, great audiences, and the kind of theatrical experiences that simply can’t be replicated anywhere else.”

Reitman also acknowledged Christopher Nolan and producer Emma Thomas for their enduring commitment to preserving the theatrical experience, noting that their involvement has been vital in maintaining cinema culture during challenging times for many theaters.

As Nolan’s adaptation approaches its release, anticipation continues to grow regarding how this classic epic will be realized on a grand IMAX scale. The ticket sales starting tomorrow represent a significant milestone in the film’s promotional journey leading up to its July premiere.
