Recent reports indicate that The Rings of Power Season 3 will showcase Barad-dûr and delve into Sauron’s journey to create the One Ring.

Barad-dûr, known as Sauron’s dark fortress in Mordor, is a pivotal location in Tolkien’s universe. Often referred to as the Dark Tower, it serves as the epicenter of Sauron’s power and military control. In the original Lord of the Rings narrative, Barad-dûr symbolizes fear and domination, constructed from Sauron’s might and intricately linked to the One Ring itself. The tower embodies Sauron’s reign over Mordor and his ambition to conquer Middle-earth.

Prime Video is currently in the midst of post-production for Season 3 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, following the completion of filming in December 2025. The series is undergoing extensive editing and visual effects work ahead of its release.

Season 3 is anticipated to premiere around mid-2027, based on the timeline observed for Season 2, which took approximately 20 months from filming to release.

While the official storyline for Season 3 remains unconfirmed, reports and speculation suggest that Sauron will progress towards forging the One Ring. Following the events of Season 2, Sauron has gained strength, commanding the Nine Rings and leading an Orc army, positioning him powerfully as Middle-earth braces for his impending threat.

One of the most significant rumored plot points is Sauron finally crafting the One Ring in the fires of Mordor, a pivotal moment that would tie directly into the broader Lord of the Rings timeline.

The report also hints at other major developments, including the rise of Rivendell post-Eregion’s fall, the emergence of the Nazgûl, and escalating conflicts involving Gandalf and the Dark Wizard.

Details about the cast have also surfaced, with returning actors like Charlie Vickers as Sauron, Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, and Robert Aramayo as Elrond. New additions to the cast are expected, including Jamie Campbell Bower, Adam Young, and Eddie Marsan in undisclosed roles.

Charlie Vickers has previously shared insights into Sauron’s character, stating, “This is only the beginning for him. I think that’s the exciting part.”

As Season 3 of The Rings of Power continues to develop, many of these details are based on early reports and speculation rather than confirmed storylines from Prime Video. Nonetheless, the prospect of witnessing Barad-dûr and the forging of the One Ring is generating significant excitement among fans.
