Nicole Kidman Dazzles in Chanel Gown at the ‘Practical Magic 2’ London Premiere
Nearly three decades after enchanting audiences, the Owens sisters are back, and their London premiere showcased the enduring magic between them. The European premiere of ‘Practical Magic 2‘ marked the film’s returning stars’ first official red carpet appearance together on this press tour.
Held at London’s Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on August 26, the premiere allowed fans to see how far Sally and Gillian Owens have come since they first captivated moviegoers in 1998. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman walked the dark blue carpet hand in hand, surrounded by tree-stump candle installations and lush greenery that perfectly reflected the film’s witchy aesthetic.
Nicole Kidman’s shimmering custom Chanel gown truly captivated attendees. The actress wore an icy aquamarine sequined dress adorned with cascading pearls and chain detailing, featuring a thigh-high slit and complemented by gold accessories that allowed the gown’s ethereal design to shine.
Bullock, on the other hand, opted for a more maximalist approach, donning a strapless Givenchy leopard-print jacquard gown with a corseted bodice, an oversized bow drape, and a matching thigh-high slit. She accessorized with Jessica McCormack jewels and black strappy heels, adding gold necklaces for an extra touch of glamour.
The contrast in their looks interestingly mirrored their characters, with structured strapless bodices and opulent leg slits linking the duo beneath the surface, even as their color palettes and prints were strikingly different. This premiere was particularly significant for Bullock, marking her first major appearance in years, following her public reflections on the loss of her partner Bryan Randall to ALS in 2023.
Joey King, a new addition to the sequel’s cast, also made a statement in a sheer cream floral custom Miu Miu gown paired with L’Dezen jewelry as she walked the carpet. King joins several newcomers to the franchise, including Maisie Williams, who will portray the next generation of gifted Owens daughters navigating their family’s magical legacy.
Directed by Susanne Bier, the sequel draws from Alice Hoffman’s novel ‘The Book of Magic,’ with Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest returning as the sisters’ quirky aunts. The film picks up over two decades after the original, focusing on Sally’s daughters as they navigate their own magical gifts.
Kidman confirmed her involvement in the project years ago while promoting another film, sharing with Variety’s Marc Malkin that she and Bullock had been hoping for a sequel since filming the original in 1998. That long-held desire is finally coming to fruition as ‘Practical Magic 2’ prepares for its theatrical release the weekend after Labor Day, nearly 28 years after audiences first met the Owens sisters.
With the excitement surrounding this reunion, it’s evident that fans have been eagerly awaiting this witchy sequel just as long as Kidman and Bullock have.
