‘Nobody Wants This’ Star Adam Brody Calls Gaza War a Genocide
Adam Brody has enjoyed a surprising career resurgence over the past year and a half, notably for his role as a charming rabbi in Netflix’s ‘Nobody Wants This’. This performance has become one of the most discussed in the streaming era, bringing with it a significant amount of scrutiny due to its connection to themes of faith and Jewish identity.
While Brody has generally kept his personal political views separate from his public persona, the escalating conversations around Israel and Gaza have made it increasingly difficult to remain silent. This week, the actor addressed the ongoing conflict directly for what seems to be the first time in a public forum.
In an interview with GQ ahead of ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 3, Brody was candid when asked about his perspective on the war. “Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine,” he stated, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Brody elaborated on his views, suggesting that the ongoing devastation should have prompted a turning point long ago. “It’s awful that it’s taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it’s reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago,” he added. “I’m hopeful that another administration can really do some good and correct some of these policies that are helping that situation be as awful as it is.”
Before this interview, Brody admitted he had avoided discussing the war publicly, despite holding strong opinions privately. When asked about the conflict’s influence on his political activism, he acknowledged, “Truthfully, it hasn’t. I have spoken a lot about it privately. I haven’t spoken much about it publicly.”
This admission provides context for why his remarks have garnered significant attention. As Rabbi Noah Roklov in the series, Brody has become one of the more visible Jewish figures on television, making his willingness to speak out noteworthy, regardless of differing opinions on the underlying politics.
The characterization of Israel’s military actions as genocide is a highly contested claim, with various international bodies and commentators offering divergent views on the conflict. Brody’s comments reflect his personal stance rather than a universal consensus, and they come amid a broader trend of Hollywood figures voicing their opinions on the matter in recent weeks.

Brody’s statements follow similar remarks from other notable figures in the entertainment industry. Actors like Hannah Einbinder and Wallace Shawn have previously described the conflict using the term genocide, while others, including Mandy Patinkin, have criticized the war without using such strong language.
The timing of Brody’s comments coincides with increased protest activity in Hollywood, including a demonstration outside the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where around 100 people, including Einbinder and Susan Sarandon, were detained while protesting the arrival of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“It’s perfect because it’s us.”

With ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 3 set to debut on Netflix on October 22, Brody’s comments come at a pivotal moment for his public profile. It remains to be seen how his remarks will influence audience reception of the new season, but they clearly indicate a shift from an actor who has previously kept his views on this topic private.
