Olivia Holt, Froy Gutierrez, Luke MacFarlane Will Star in YA Horror Thriller ‘This Is Not a Test,’ Based on a Book by Courtney Summers

Adam MacDonald, known for Backcountry and Pyewacket, is set to direct This is Not a Test, an apocalyptic horror-thriller based on Courtney Summers’ bestselling YA novel. The movie, produced by Anova Pictures, stars Olivia Holt (Cruel Summer), Froy Gutierrez (The Strangers: Chapter 1), and Luke MacFarlane (Bros). Filming kicks off this month in Ontario, Canada.

Blue Fox Entertainment is handling international sales at the EFM in Berlin, covering all non-English-speaking territories. Financing comes from BondIt Media Capital, with Matthew Helderman and Luke Taylor as executive producers.

The project is a collaboration between Anova Pictures, North Avenue Pictures, and WorldOne Entertainment.

The story follows Sloane and four other teens who barricade themselves inside Cortege High as the world outside crumbles under an infected outbreak.

While danger pounds on the doors, Sloane, who once had no will to live, starts seeing life differently—and takes matters into her own hands.

Cybill Lui, producing under Anova Pictures, described the film as a mix of The Breakfast Club and 28 Weeks Later, promising an emotional and intense ride set in the 90s. ‘With Adam at the helm and a cast as strong as Olivia, Froy, and Luke, we’re creating something gripping from start to finish.’

Lisa Gutberlet of Blue Fox Entertainment highlighted the film’s fresh energy, calling it a must-watch for YA horror fans. Summers, the author of the book, shared her excitement, saying, ‘Adam’s work in horror is wildly intense, and I can’t wait to see This is Not a Test take its place in the zombie genre.’

MacDonald is represented by CAA and Garrett Legal. Holt is with WME and Entertainment 360. Gutierrez is signed with CAA and Untitled Entertainment. MacFarlane is with Independent Artist Group and Entertainment 360. Summers is repped by WME and Faye Bender of The Book Group.
