Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another has surged to the forefront of the 2026 awards season, securing a leading nine nominations for the 83rd Golden Globe Awards. The action-thriller, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor, outpaced a competitive field that includes Joachim Trier’s Norwegian drama Sentimental Value and Ryan Coogler’s period horror Sinners. Anderson’s latest feature, inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s novel Vineland, earned recognition in major categories including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.

The Golden Globe Foundation recognized One Battle After Another across multiple acting brackets, with Leonardo DiCaprio receiving a nod for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. His co-stars Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro were both nominated for Best Supporting Male Actor, while Teyana Taylor and Chase Infiniti picked up nominations in the Supporting Female and Lead Female Comedy categories, respectively. The film’s nine total nominations position it as the clear favorite heading into the January ceremony.

In the Best Motion Picture – Drama category, Sinners and Sentimental Value are joined by Frankenstein, Hamnet, It Was Just an Accident, and The Secret Agent. Coogler’s Sinners, a supernatural thriller set in the Jim Crow South, collected seven nominations, including a Best Actor nod for Michael B. Jordan. Sentimental Value followed closely with eight nominations, highlighting a strong international presence with recognition for actors Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård, and Elle Fanning.

The race for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy features a diverse lineup alongside Anderson’s frontrunner. Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia, Joshua Safdie’s Marty Supreme, and Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon secured spots, as did the Korean thriller No Other Choice and the French feature Nouvelle Vague. Notably, the widely commercially successful Wicked: For Good failed to crack the Best Picture field, though stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were nominated for their performances.

Television categories saw HBO’s The White Lotus maintain its critical stronghold with six nominations, leading all series. The anthology drama will compete for Best Television Series – Drama against newcomers such as The Pitt and Pluribus. Netflix’s limited series Adolescence earned five nods, while comedy staples like The Bear, Hacks, and Only Murders in the Building continued to perform well with the voting body.

Individual acting races feature a mix of veterans and newcomers. The Best Male Actor – Drama field includes Jeremy Allen White for Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere and Dwayne Johnson for The Smashing Machine. On the comedy side, Timothée Chalamet will challenge DiCaprio for his role in Marty Supreme, alongside George Clooney for Jay Kelly. The 83rd Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast live on CBS and Paramount+ on January 11, with comedian Nikki Glaser returning to host the ceremony.
