The live-action ‘One Piece’ season 2 announced casting for Mr. 1 and Miss Doublefinger on November 26. Mr. 1, the bladed assassin Daz Bonez with a steel body Devil Fruit, goes to Japanese actor AWDO AWDO. Miss Doublefinger, the thorn-manipulating sculptor Paula, lands with British actress Daisy Head. Eiichiro Oda approved both selections, per Netflix’s release during production in Cape Town.

Filming began August 15, 2024, after delays from the 2023 strikes. Season 2 adapts the Arabasta Arc, introducing Crocodile’s criminal empire from episodes 78 to 130. Returning cast includes Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, with 10 new additions like Joseph D. Reitman as Portgas D. Ace. The eight-episode run targets a 2026 premiere, expanding the 2023 season’s 1.6 billion viewing hours.

AWDO AWDO, known for stage work in Tokyo’s underground theater, brings physicality to Mr. 1’s swordsmanship. His 6-foot-2 frame suits the agent’s unyielding combat style, honed through Oda’s manga where he duels Zoro in a steel-vs-steel clash. Production photos show him in partial prosthetics, emphasizing the Supa Supa no Mi’s edge transformation.

Daisy Head, daughter of Anthony Head from ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer,’ embodies Miss Doublefinger’s deceptive elegance. Her prior roles in ‘Masters of the Air’ and ‘The Sandman’ highlight versatile menace, fitting the agent’s clay-sculpting facade over thorn spikes. Head joins at 34, aligning with the character’s mid-30s canon age.

Baroque Works agents demand intricate effects: wirework for thorn extensions and CGI for Mr. 1’s blade shifts, budgeted at $20 million per episode. Oda consulted on designs, ensuring Miss Doublefinger’s pet iguana, Toto, appears as a nod to Alabasta’s desert lore. The arc spans 52 manga chapters, introducing 20+ characters amid Luffy’s pursuit of the 80 million berry bounty on Crocodile.

Casting reflects global diversity, with 40 percent non-Japanese actors per season 1’s model. Mr. 1’s reveal echoes Zoro’s three-sword rivalry, a pivotal fight spanning 15 minutes in the anime. Head’s Miss Doublefinger arc culminates in a Vivi confrontation, underscoring themes of hidden loyalties.

Production logs 120 filming days, with desert sets at South Africa’s Richtersveld mimicking Arabasta’s sands. Netflix data projects 2 billion hours for season 2, building on the original’s 95 percent Rotten Tomatoes score. Oda’s involvement extends to script tweaks, preserving the series’ 1,000+ chapter epic.

This duo bolsters the villain roster, teasing Crocodile’s water-weakness plot. Voice comparisons circulate online, with 5,000 X posts praising AWDO’s stoic intensity. As Arabasta’s rebellion unfolds, their roles test the adaptation’s balance of fidelity and spectacle. Season 2’s scope rivals ‘The Rings of Power’ in ensemble scale, eyeing Emmys for costume design.
