‘Perfect Liars’ Teaser Trailer Released for Upcoming Prime Video Film Adaptation
Wattpad has established itself as a key source for upcoming streaming hits, transforming popular serialized fiction into major film and television adaptations. The platform’s knack for cultivating large, dedicated fanbases before any footage is shot has made its top stories increasingly appealing to studios seeking built-in audiences. The latest example of this trend is finally being showcased.
Prime Video has unveiled the first teaser trailer for ‘Perfect Liars,’ its forthcoming Spanish original film based on Alex Mírez’s Wattpad novel of the same name. With over 140 million reads on the platform, this story has emerged as one of the site’s standout literary successes as it transitions to the screen.
The film is set to debut exclusively on Prime Video on November 20, launching simultaneously in over 240 countries and territories worldwide as part of standard Prime membership access. Director Jesús Colmenar, known for his work on ‘Money Heist,’ helms the project and co-wrote the screenplay with Ángela Armero, recognized for ‘If I Were a Rich Man.’
‘Perfect Liars’ follows Jude Derry, portrayed by Irene Balmes, who arrives at the prestigious university of Tagus with a hidden agenda: to infiltrate the powerful Cash brothers’ inner circle and uncover the truth behind her brother’s death. Beneath the university’s polished exterior lies a world filled with secrets, betrayal, and simmering revenge, perfectly aligning with the dark academia aesthetic that has gained popularity across streaming platforms.
The Cash brothers form the core of the story’s power dynamics. Aegan, the charismatic and calculating firstborn, is played by Gleb Abrosimov; Pau Simon portrays the enigmatic middle brother Adrik; and Pablo Scapigliati takes on the role of Alex, the rebellious youngest sibling. Together, this trio commands Tagus with a magnetism that, according to the film’s marketing, is irresistible. Asier Etxeandia plays their father, Adrien Cash, while Irene Ferreiro joins the cast as a character named Artie.

The decision to adapt ‘Perfect Liars’ aligns with a broader trend of streaming services tapping into Wattpad’s catalog for proven hits with passionate fanbases. With over 140 million reads already, the source novel arrives with a level of anticipation that few original screen properties can match, and Prime Video seems to be fully embracing that existing devotion with a global day-and-date release strategy.
In terms of timing, ‘Perfect Liars’ is entering a competitive release window. The film shares its November 20 premiere date with approximately 10 other titles, including ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,’ putting it in direct competition for audience attention right from the start. Nevertheless, a built-in fanbase of this size gives the film a significant advantage over most of its rivals.
For fans who have followed Jude Derry’s journey since its Wattpad days, the newly released teaser provides the first real look at Tagus brought to life on screen, hinting at the moody, secret-filled atmosphere that contributed to the novel’s runaway success. Whether the adaptation can replicate the intensity that captivated millions of readers remains to be seen, but the elements, from Colmenar’s genre expertise to the source material’s vast audience, are certainly in place.
With less than two months until its global premiere, excitement for ‘Perfect Liars’ is likely to continue building.
