Producer Todd Garner Responds to Critics as ‘Mortal Kombat 2’ Gets Mixed Reviews
‘Mortal Kombat 2’ has garnered mostly positive feedback from critics, being hailed as one of the better adaptations of a video game. The film has exceeded expectations, especially when compared to the 2021 reboot.
Despite the favorable reception, producer Todd Garner has voiced his frustration over some negative critiques. He took to X to express his views, criticizing certain reviewers for their lack of understanding of the source material.
He stated, “Some of these reviews are cracking me up. It’s clear they have never played the game and have no idea what the fans want or ANY of the rules/canon of Mortal Kombat. One reviewer was mad that a guy ‘had a laser eye!’ Why the fuck do we still allow people that don’t have any love for the genre review these movies! Baffling.”
Garner also engaged with fans online, emphasizing that the film was crafted with the fanbase in mind rather than critics. In another response, he remarked, “It’s called Mortal Kombat 2 for a reason…” Some fans countered, noting that the movie has received significantly more positive reviews than negative ones overall.

As per review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, ‘Mortal Kombat 2’ currently boasts a 68% rating based on over 100 reviews. This rating positions it ahead of the 2021 ‘Mortal Kombat’ film, making it the highest-rated installment in the franchise.
